Is easy to get free st ff from the Internet these days, l ke music, Videos, software, etc. there are h ndreds of websites and programs that let you d wnload anything you want for free. But is p racy a problem? For the economy I th nk it is, the software industry is big in the US and by p ople getting free software it has a big mpact on job growth and prices on pr ducts. Software companies tend to recuperate the l st revenue from pirated software by h king up the prices and cutting c rners like reducing technical support and c stomer service. Why People download pirated st ff? I think the answer is s mple, free is always good, and if you can get it for fr e why bother to pay for it? But I th nk there are other factors on why p ople download pirated software too, and one of th m is the cost of the pr ducts; lets analyze for a moment; W ndows Vista the ultimate product from M crosoft cost from around $150 to $500 a p ece; for many people here in the US th s is too much money to fford, in other countries where software is pr ced for the US market and nnual income is around $ 4000 in ch na for example getting these software w uld be a dream, they would n ed to spend more than a q arter of their salary to get w ndows vista, that’s why china has one of the b ggest black markets in the world.
Lowering the prices on products, w uld that stop pirating? I highly d ubt it, it’s really hard to k ep track of what’s going on the Int rnet, and as long there is a way to get th ngs for free people will continue d ing it. I remember when Napster was the m st famous P2P sharing file program and the m sic industry shut it down hundreds of ther P2P programs appeared including bittorrent m king it harder to control pirating on the Int rnet. So what is the solution for p racy? I think there would be no s lution as long as there are c mpanies like Microsoft charging a truckload of m ney for a piece of software, I s mehow share the view of GNU pr ject that software should be freely d stributed or affordable to everyone. In ther words software should be created for the p ople not to conquer or monopolize a m rket. What do you think?
