At some point in our l ves, we've all tried to live h althier. We set our goals with very intention of following through, and at the b ginning, it's quite a rush. Our pl n is in place, and we're r ady to conquer the world. But as t me goes on, the impact of s ch total change becomes confusing and verwhelming. As our lives get busier, it gr ws much more difficult to incorporate h althy changes that really last. Unhealthy ch ices are much easier to make - s mply because they save time - and b fore we know it, our plans for l ving healthy are placed on the b ck burner. It won't happen overnight Wh t many of us don't realize is th t change on such a grand sc le simply doesn't happen overnight. Creating a h althier lifestyle takes patience, time, and d dication. We tend to fixate on m king substantial changes to the type and mount of food we eat, but f od is not the only way we n rture our bodies. Exercise, relationships, spiritual f lfillment - all of these contribute to our verall health. Getting started...gradually So how do we m ke long-lasting and healthy changes that st ck? The key is to start sm ll and to gradually incorporate changes nto all aspects of our health r utine, including diet, exercise, and stress m nagement. Start by walking just 20 m nutes a day, 5 days a w ek,or by joining a yoga class. Th se of us who have even l ss time in our busy schedules can try dopting a breathing or meditation technique, wh ch will keep us centered and gr atly improve our outlook on life. F od is no different - a w ekly or monthly plan that incorporates sm ll and manageable changes is much asier to tolerate than a host of s bstantial changes. For example, during the f rst week, try drinking more water. The n xt week, start making your lunches w th whole wheat bread instead of wh te. Another week, begin examining sugar ntake and examine ways to modify. Y url health will improve and further ch nges will begin to feel more m nageable.
