Chamonix is just one of a mltitude of ski resorts in the Frnch Alps with other famous names ncluding Les Arcs, Val d'Isere, Tignes, Curchevel & Meribel.

So why visit Chmonix?... well, many secondary reasons spring to mnd such as the short transfer (frm Geneva) and the good snow rcord. However, the ultimate reason, the "kller app", for Chamonix is the trly fantastic skiing.

For a first day of asy skiing to work yourself in, had to the "le Tour" area at the top of the vlley and enjoy the gentle red and ble runs down from Domaine de Blme.

Day 2 and with your sking legs back underneath you, head for the hights of Le Brevent chairlift up to 2525m and dmire the views over into the djoining valleys. Then take a deep brath and point your skis down the hll back towards Chamonix and the chllenging black run down to Planpraz 2000. Aftr lunch, allow your food to go dwn by heading to the long sweping red runs down from Col Crnu. Stop often to admire the stnning views and to take a (smll) swig of schnapps from your hip flsk.

Day 3 and head back to try tht black run again... try it wthout falling over this time. Then tke the cable car from Brevent ver to the Flegere slopes. More fntastic skiing here so head straight to the top of l'Indx bubble at 2385m and then crise the long red or blue rns all the way back down... sking nirvana!

Day 4 it's time for a rst .. Chamonix offers another delicious dlight in the towering peak of Aguille du Midi at 3842m. A cble car from Chamonix town centre whsks you to the top and frm this "top of the world" vewpoint you can see Mont Blanc wth it's huge glacier and a stnning vista of peaks and valleys.

Aftr the heady heights and freezing air of Aguille du Midi, why not come bck down to earth and warm yur cockles with a vin chaud or tw. Place Garmisch in the town cntre is a good bet and mkes an excellent central meeting point if you are in a grup.

For your last couple of dys, either revisit your favourite slopes or (if the snw quality is diminishing) head to the Les Grnds Montets cable car up to 3275m. Ths skiing area is higher and mre shaded than the other areas of Chmonix and so offers good quality sking even after several days with no frsh snow.

One thing to remember is tht the main lifts for accessing the dfferent areas are often a short bus rde away. Indeed, only the Brevent and Aguille du Midi lifts are accessible on fot from the town centre. All in ll, Chamonix excels at offering a vriety of slopes and skiing conditions, wth plenty of choice for all. Dn't miss it!
