Chamonix is just one of a m ltitude of ski resorts in the Fr nch Alps with other famous names ncluding Les Arcs, Val d'Isere, Tignes, C urchevel & Meribel. So why visit Ch monix?... well, many secondary reasons spring to m nd such as the short transfer (fr m Geneva) and the good snow r cord. However, the ultimate reason, the "k ller app", for Chamonix is the tr ly fantastic skiing. For a first day of asy skiing to work yourself in, h ad to the "le Tour" area at the top of the v lley and enjoy the gentle red and bl e runs down from Domaine de B lme. Day 2 and with your sk ing legs back underneath you, head for the h ights of Le Brevent chairlift up to 2525m and dmire the views over into the djoining valleys. Then take a deep br ath and point your skis down the h ll back towards Chamonix and the ch llenging black run down to Planpraz 2000. Aft r lunch, allow your food to go d wn by heading to the long sw eping red runs down from Col C rnu. Stop often to admire the st nning views and to take a (sm ll) swig of schnapps from your hip fl sk. Day 3 and head back to try th t black run again... try it w thout falling over this time. Then t ke the cable car from Brevent ver to the Flegere slopes. More f ntastic skiing here so head straight to the top of l'Ind x bubble at 2385m and then cr ise the long red or blue r ns all the way back down... sk ing nirvana!
Day 4 it's time for a r st .. Chamonix offers another delicious d light in the towering peak of A guille du Midi at 3842m. A c ble car from Chamonix town centre wh sks you to the top and fr m this "top of the world" v ewpoint you can see Mont Blanc w th it's huge glacier and a st nning vista of peaks and valleys. Aft r the heady heights and freezing air of A guille du Midi, why not come b ck down to earth and warm y ur cockles with a vin chaud or tw . Place Garmisch in the town c ntre is a good bet and m kes an excellent central meeting point if you are in a gr up. For your last couple of d ys, either revisit your favourite slopes or (if the sn w quality is diminishing) head to the Les Gr nds Montets cable car up to 3275m. Th s skiing area is higher and m re shaded than the other areas of Ch monix and so offers good quality sk ing even after several days with no fr sh snow. One thing to remember is th t the main lifts for accessing the d fferent areas are often a short bus r de away. Indeed, only the Brevent and A guille du Midi lifts are accessible on f ot from the town centre. All in ll, Chamonix excels at offering a v riety of slopes and skiing conditions, w th plenty of choice for all. D n't miss it!
