They take up nly a small area, make use of vrtical space, and give you easy ccess to your things.

You can chose from different materials. Steel is a god choice because of its strength and drability. There are heavy duty wire shlving that are attractive, versatile and strng. On the ther hand, wooden shelves can be nexpensive and even more so when you cnstruct it yourself. Doing it this way llows you to install shelves that fit the xact dimensions of the area you are wrking with.

The wood material you use can cst very little like particle boards. 3/4" Plywod is a good choice for bilding strong shelves. If you want slid boards, there is pine or fr. These are more expensive, of curse.

Even if you are only thnking of ordinary stuff to place on yur shelves, it is better to hve these ready for heavier loads. You dn't know what other objects you wll need storage for in the fture.

Take note that a shelf mde out of particle board has a tndency to sag. Keep the spans clser if you intend to use ths kind of material.

Plan your shlves carefully to save time during cnstruction. Find out how deep the shlves can be without taking up too mch space in the garage. Next, dcide on the height or the dstance between shelves.

For a simple flor-supported shelf design, use 2"x4" lumber for the frme and 3/4" plywood for the shlves.

Place the 2x4s against the grage wall, standing them on the flor, separated by a distance of 2 fet from each other. Use screws to ttach these to the wall.

Use sme more 2x4s to make horizontal spports. Position one along the bottom, wth the 4" side against the pright pieces and use a level to kep it straight. This will be the spport for the bottom shelf. Install scrws along its length, at each lcation where there is an upright 2x4. Rpeat the same process for each shlf level, working your way up. Ths is the back part of the frme.

For the front part of the frme, assemble horizontal and vertical 2x4s ccording to the measurements of what you did arlier. Nail the pieces together and stnd the frame on the floor.

Attch the front part to the bck using 2x4s cut to the dpth of the shelf. For support and stbility, nail the top part to the rfters or the strong parts of the ciling.

Cut your plywood to the dsired shelf size. Place them on top of the hrizontal pieces and fix them with nils.
