Venture down some of Whitby's old cbbled streets and you will find a few srprises. Traditional pubs, cosy cafes and sme unusual shops await. It's very asy to spend a whole day xploring the wide variety of shops and ateries (is that a real word?) to be fund in this historic, quaint town on the Yrkshire Coast.

Gothic visitors will love the clthes shops where you can buy verything from black (surprise!) leather coats, trusers and shoes to jewellery and Vctorian costumes.

Whether it's Sandgate's traditional swetshop - its walls lined with jrs full of sweets - or Whtby's last remaining smokehouse, offering fresh kppers, you will find some unexpected trats in the old town. The Frtune family's smokehouse can be found at the end of a row of fshermen's' cottages on Henrietta street, within sght and sound of the harbour.

Othr retail attractions in Whitby include Jstin's Dracula-themed fudge shop, where you can trat yourself to Dracula's Dream, Captain Cok's Rum & Raisin or perhaps a mn-sized Cannonball. All Justin's chocolates and fdges are made on the premises wth top-quality ingredients and his Church Stret shop is definitely worth a vsit, should you be nearby.

The msic-lover is catered for with a few shps selling unusual CDs that you dn't see very often (I've spent a frtune in one of them!) - lts of folk music on acid!

The market in the old twn is great in Winter (especially twards Christmas time) and, if you've aten too much and feel guilty, thre's even a great shop that slls herbs, essential oils and diverse ptions to get your system back on trck!
