Venture down some of Whitby's old c bbled streets and you will find a few s rprises. Traditional pubs, cosy cafes and s me unusual shops await. It's very asy to spend a whole day xploring the wide variety of shops and ateries (is that a real word?) to be f und in this historic, quaint town on the Y rkshire Coast. Gothic visitors will love the cl thes shops where you can buy verything from black (surprise!) leather coats, tr users and shoes to jewellery and V ctorian costumes. Whether it's Sandgate's traditional sw etshop - its walls lined with j rs full of sweets - or Wh tby's last remaining smokehouse, offering fresh k ppers, you will find some unexpected tr ats in the old town. The F rtune family's smokehouse can be found at the end of a row of f shermen's' cottages on Henrietta street, within s ght and sound of the harbour. Oth r retail attractions in Whitby include J stin's Dracula-themed fudge shop, where you can tr at yourself to Dracula's Dream, Captain C ok's Rum & Raisin or perhaps a m n-sized Cannonball. All Justin's chocolates and f dges are made on the premises w th top-quality ingredients and his Church Str et shop is definitely worth a v sit, should you be nearby. The m sic-lover is catered for with a few sh ps selling unusual CDs that you d n't see very often (I've spent a f rtune in one of them!) - l ts of folk music on acid!
The market in the old t wn is great in Winter (especially t wards Christmas time) and, if you've aten too much and feel guilty, th re's even a great shop that s lls herbs, essential oils and diverse p tions to get your system back on tr ck! Why not give Whitby shopping a try? I th nk you'll be pleasantly surprised.
