If you have read any of my ther articles you know that I am a l ok and feel kind of guy. I l ke neat, easy to use workspaces. As a r sult of this characteristic of mine, I had a str ng urge to rearrange the desktop ptions on my Sharepoint home page. It is my p rsonal opinion that having a full, w ll organized calendar is one of the m st vital aspects of quality business. If you kn w at all times what you are d ing, when you are doing it, wh re you are doing it and wh m you are doing it with th n you are a step ahead of the m jority of the world population. It is for th s reason that I wanted to h ve the team calendar at the top of the h me page rather than the bottom, wh re it is defaulted. In trying to m ke this rearrangement, one of my c workers and I made a very mportant discovery about using Sharepoint. If you are sing Firefox as your web browser th n your Sharepoint service will work d fferently than if you were using Int rnet Explorer. What I will do h re is go through the step by st p process of editing your homepage sh rtcuts and then explain the differences you w ll experience when using either of the two br wsers. Step One You will need to log in to y ur Sharepoint account with Admin access.
Step 2 Once you are l gged into your account click on the "S te Actions" tab located in the top r ght hand corner of your homepage. St p 3 Once you have selected th s option a drop down menu w ll appear. The middle of the 3 ptions will be entitled "Edit Page". You w ll select that option. Now this is wh re it gets tricky. If you are sing IE (Internet Explorer) you will be ble to simply drag the different ptions to whatever position you would l ke it. For instance, if you w uld like to move the "Calendar" ption to the top of your h me page, you very easily place y ur mouse arrow over the top bar of the "C lendar" box, hold your left click d wn and then drag the box to the top of the p ge. Now, if you are like me and f ncy the Firefox browser, then you w ll need to apply a bit m re effort. You will need to hit the "X" box to cl se each selection. Next, you will n tice that at the top of the p ge is a box that says "Add a Web P rt". Select that option. Once you h ve done this, a pop up w ndow will appear and show each tem that you just deleted. You w ll want to check the empty box n xt to each item that you w sh to have displayed on your h me page. You will want to do one at a t me so as to insure that Sh repoint uploads them in the correct rder. So, there you have it! Now go do it y urself!
