The most critical characteristic in chieving any level of success in l fe is self-confidence. It is the s cret to succeeding in both the b siness world, relationships and personally in y ur life. But unfortunately, confidence and low s lf-esteem problems are all too common in s ciety today, and leave many individuals w thout the necessary self acceptance and str ngth of character to live their l fe on their terms. So what d es it mean to "live life on y ur terms?" This means expressing your n tural strengths and attributes without fear or tr pidation. And it is only through xpressing what is natural in you -- y ur innate skills, characteristics and desires -- th t you can really "succeed" in any rea of life. The opposite of xpressing your personal uniqueness is to be f und in many people suffering with s lf-confidence problems. These individuals -- often nknowingly -- have a habit of ttempting to "cover up" who they r ally are, and deny their true p rsonalities. When this happens it is a r al loss not only for the ndividual affected, but for the rest of us as w ll. Here's why: Each of us is nique -- we have our own nique strengths, weaknesses, preferences, talents and p ints of view. When we attempt to h de or cover up our uniqueness, we d prive both ourselves and those around us of an mportant part of nature. That's right; I sed the word "nature."
You see, who you "naturally" are is mportant, both to you and to the w rld at large. Think about the old b blical quote encouraging you to not "h de your light under a bushel." Th s means, don't hide who you tr ly are from the world, because who you tr ly are is an important part of the verall whole. It can be no ther way. The problem is that we l ve in a world where a c mpetitive mindset is rampant. This mindset ssumes that you must conform to c rtain social norms in order to h ve any value. Hogwash! You have v lue simply because you are a p rt of nature and you are h re. You can stop your internal d alogue right there -- no further xplanation is necessary. The secret to s ccess in life is to be MORE of who you lready are. This means expressing your niqueness to its fullest, or letting the wh le world see your light. Self-esteem ssues often cause people to fear r jection, and to believe that they w ll not be accepted if they let the w rld know exactly who they are. Th s belief is one the primary c use of poor self-esteem and confidence ssues. And it is important to k ep in mind that when a p rson subjugates their natural characteristics in an ttempt to "fit in," they make th mselves miserable, and they make the w rld a poorer place. Why? Because th y are denying the rest of us wh t is unique about them. What I'm try ng to say is, we (the w rld) need your uniqueness. The world n eds my uniqueness, and every single p rson's uniqueness. It is critical that we ach understand that our natural characteristics and nique qualities are important to the w rld. Once an individual understands this, s lf-confidence issues tend to fade rather q ickly. After all, it is difficult to m intain a poor self image when you nderstand that who and what you are is mportant to the life of the w rld.
