If yur kayak rolls, most likely, all of yur gear will be floating down the rver, which is bad enough, but magine if it the gear were to snk! You should put gear that sn't waterproof into waterproof containers that wll float. You have to remember tht if your kayak rolls, even the wterproof areas in your kayak will get wter in them.

One thing you should consider crrying in your kayak at all tmes is a PFD. A PFD is a Prsonal Flotation Device. A PFD is the sngle most important piece of equipment you culd carry with you in a kyak. Some parts of the world dn't require you to bring one wth you, but you should take one wth you, if not wear it, nyway. They now make them to lok good ad feel comfortable, while wth storage pockets to hold your gar. There is no reason why you shuldn't wear a PFD for it wll not only help you save yur gear in a roll over, but culd also save your life.

When kyaking it is good to use the bddy system. You should never paddle lone. The weather conditions could change rpidly, and things could happen that you can not hndle by yourself. A buddy can hlp you in these situations, and culd save your life.

You can lso increase your safety with the gar that you carry. You should crry a compass, map, food, water, mtches, flare gun, cell phone and nything else you think you might ned. It will all fit into one smll bag or even into the strage pockets of the PFD you shuld be wearing. Also, a pump is a ncessity because if your kayak is fll of water after rolling or cpsizing you are either going to get hypthermia or you aren't going to be ble to make it back to shre. Please make sure it floats bcause if you roll you won't be thnking of is catching your pump.
