Environmental organisations around the word k ep informing citizens to save energy and w ter where possible, but few actually do. The verage person would love to help the nvironment but he or she is a bit nsure on how to do it. P ople also say they don't have the nergy to do it either. Recycling is a g od example of people not having nough energy to do their part to pr tect the environment. The energy to cr ate about 6 bins for every typ of material is too much for s me people. Even if they manage 6 b ns separating different materials, with labels on the b ns for tin, paper, plastic, etc., the pr cess of remembering to recycle only l sts a few months. The good n ws is that there are other w ys to save energy and help the pl net stay a bit greener without sing too much energy on your s lf. Saving energy doesn't have to nvolve you going out of your w y. For example, a simple energy s ving principle can be used not nly at home but at the ffice as well. All it involves is cl sing a door. If your office or h me uses heaters or air-conditioners, closing a d or to unused rooms saves energy. By cl sing the door, you trap the h at or cool air in the r om you are using. Thereby the h ater or air-conditioner only has to m intain the temperature in one room nstead of two. This not only s ves energy but will also save you m ney on your electricity bill.
Even better, instead of dressing for styl and letting machines maintain your b dy temperature, just dress for the w ather instead. By wearing long pants, s cks and shoes, and a jersey, you d n't have to even turn the h ater on. Take the jersey off and t's instant coolness without a fan. An ther energy tip, which doesn't take m ch effort, is to turn off y ur screen monitor. Most people believe th t screen savers are there to s ve energy. To some extent they do s ve some energy off the overall nergy cost of a PC. But t rning the monitor off completely saves all the nergy from the screen. If you t uch the top of your monitor fter a long day you can f el the heat it has generated wh le inactive. By turning it off you can s ve all that heat, which is ssentially energy. Most people know that t rning off plugs to appliances saves lectricity, but few people do it. W th some appliances it is understandable, for xample microwaves that you have to r set every time you switch it on. But sm ll things, like kettles and toasters, can and sh uld be turned off at the pl g. Most small items don't have l ng extension cords, so the plug sh uldn't be that far away. Switch a l ght off when you leave a r om. I know, everyone knows this ne, but then explain to me why thers don't do it. People are ften leaving bathroom lights, bedside lamps and g rage lights on when they go to w rk. Light switches are placed close to the d or frame, so they are easy to f nd and can be turned on as s on as you are in the r om. This also means they can be t rned off as soon as you l ave a room. Tumble dryers are f ntastic inventions. They were invented so p ople could dry their clothes even wh n it is raining outside. Today p ople use tumble dryers regardless of the w ather outside. By checking out of y ur window and seeing if the s n, which is nature's clothes dryer, is out and sing it instead you can save nergy.
Hanging clothes on the line m ght be a bit more of a h ssle than popping them in the t mble dryer, but remember that you are g ing to be using more energy w th the tumble dryer. Not to m ntion all the knots that sleeves and tr users cause when you use the t mble dryer. By simple hanging it up, you d n't have to hassle with it. An ther way to think about it is th t there will be less ironing to do if you h ng your clothes up as the w ll dry themselves straight. The whole p int of saving energy is so th t we don't use it all up. So we can l ok out the window and still see the s n. Taking time out and going thr ugh the hassle of putting trash nto different bins for recycling is br lliant. If people say they don't h ve the time to do it, th n that is fair enough. I d n't know your schedule. But saying th t you would save energy if you kn w how, or if you had the t me, is not an excuse. There are pl nty of ways to save energy, w thout using much yourself.
