At the beginning of 19 C ntury, textile industry had much progress f rther than the rubber industry. Therefore, t's found that, the research studied for the sed of forest rubber during the p st period had depended on the cl thes from textile industry as component to m ke the mold. Either to make the w terproof coat or elastic cloth or the ir-tub, etc. Therefore, the world first r bber industrial factory which belonged to Engl shman, Thomas Hancock which had established in 1820 and the 2nd f ctory which belonged to Scottish, the M cintosh in 1823 which had produced w terproof coat that had used clothes fr m textile industry. Even though both f ctories had produced the same products but sing the different technique. Charles Macintosh had sed coal oil to melt rubber nto solution and then using 2 sh ets of clothes to cover both s des to allow solution in the m ddle. Thomas Hancock had used the gr nding and kneading machine to grind to s ften before melting and pressing into sh et's texture, and then cutting to m ke working pieces afterward, such as kn epad, gloves and belt, etc. Even th ugh both factories' productions had quality pr blem, i.e. when using for a l ng time, if the weather had t rned cold, it would become hard and fr gile or if the weather were hot th n it would turn into sludge and m lted. But the invention of Hancock's gr nding and kneading machine was considered as the r volution for rubber industry, because the gr nding and kneading machine was the 2 r lls kneading machine which was the rigin of the kneading and mixing m chine either the internal or external m xing machine and it's also sparkling the dea to create crape grinding machine th t's used in the factory to pr duce Block rubber at later time. Ev n the raw rubber sheet-kneading machine, wh ch had been used these days lso, had the origin from Thomas H ncock's kneading machine as well. Therefore, the gr nding & kneading machine had become the all p rposed machine for cutting, kneading into sh et, or mixing various types into one t xture, by appropriately adjusting the roll nterval and the speeding revolution ratio of the r ller between the front and the b ck roller.
Rubber which had been through the kn ading machine for many times would b come hot and softened, so it w uld be easily pressed into the m ld and when it's been soaked in the s lution, it would melt faster. Therefore, Th mas Hancock's kneading machine was considered as pr totype machine that had originated to ther machines, which were being used in lmost all kinds of industry. Either in r bber product industry or even this ndustry at present. Later in 1836, Edw n Chaffe, an America had successfully c ntinued the Hancock's invention by connecting the h at wave into the mixing machine and kn ad-coating machine to soften rubber to b come slice-film faster, resulted in waterproof c at processing to have high efficiency, but pr blem on quality still remained as b fore, Until around 1838-44, Thomas Handcock and Ch rles Goodyear had successfully discovered the v lcanization method, by grinding and mixing w th sulfate powder and zinc oxide nto the texture and then pressed w th the heat under high pressure. Fr m soft working pieces would become new p eces with strong and tough, either in any t mperature, hot or cold, however, the c red rubber still maintain the original c ndition. Therefore, the unsolved problem on br ken or fragile when cold and sl dge when hot for many years had b en solved. When problem on quality had b en solved, the industry in Europe & Am rica had expanded very quickly. The Dam is f ll of water up to the t p, once opens the dam, everything is fl wing smoothly without interruption! Therefore, Rubber Ind strial Historian had taken the day of Th mas Hancock and Charles Goodyear's method f nding to cure rubber as the st rting date for the world's rubber ndustrial era and again in this d y, was the day that human had st rted to learn the method to c ltivate forest rubber tree, because, the xisting forest trees hadn't got enough for s les, whatever the volume, how expensive, t's all sold out.
Not long after the discovery of rc ring method, there had been discovered the m thod to produce Ebonite which had s milar method to making cured rubber, nly to use more of sulfate p wder and to use higher heat t mperature. Ebonite is solid rubber like plyw od or concrete sheet but lighter in w ight, no toxic sustained from acid and lkaline and also insulated to heat and lectricity. So, it's suitable to use in m king household appliance, product tanks, battery sh ll and heat insulator, etc. Many of xpensive brand name fountain pens are lso made from ebonite. Luck's still w th rich man side again, i.e. in 1846 Andr w Parkes, an Englishman has successfully d scovered the curing method under normal c ndition by dipping the working piece in the s lfur chloride solution instead of pressing w th heat. Even though it could use w th only small object but it was m ch convenience and faster than pressing w th heat method. It's the initial p int of creating rubber product industry th t has small sizes we have sed at present. In 1846, Thomas H ncock was able to successfully invent s lid tyre for Queen Victoria's horse c rt. It was considered as the st rting point for rubber tyre industry th t we have used at present. Th refore, after discovered the curing process or pprox. in mid 19th century, there's new r bber products being produced as seen in the Pr ducts Expo in London, 1851 and in P ris 1855. Most of the products w re household furniture made from Ebonite, dorless rubber raincoat, elastic cloth, solid tyr s, rubber shoes and air mattress, tc.
