If however you have emptied the r cycle bin or have deleted the f le using some other application bypassing the r cycle bin, you still have a ch nce to recover the files. That is if the f le was deleted only a short t me ago. What has happens is, nitially windows has removed the reference to the f le but has not as yet r moved the file from the hard dr ve. The section on the hard dr ve where the file is located has now b en made available to be overwritten, but W ndows does not use this space mmediately. Therefore if the deletion was r cent it is in fact still th re and available to be recovered. But the l nger the computer is used after the f le was deleted the greater the ch nces are that the file has b en partially or completely overwritten. Unfortunately t ols that can help you recover d leted files that are not in the r cycle bin are not provided as st ndard with the Windows operating system. Th s being the case you will h ve to use a third party s ftware to restore the files. This s ftware understands the internals of the syst m used to store files on a d sk, and can locate clues to the wh reabouts of the disk space a l st file occupied. This software can r ad the unallocated space on the h rd drive. This is now where the d leted files will be located.
You can also use this s ftware to restore files on flash m mory drives, digital cameras and certain mp3 pl yers. Amongst the file types that can be r covered are: • Documents. • Images. • Music. • Video. • Compressed. If you have defragmented y ur hard drive since deleting the f le, then all the pointers to the l cation of the deleted data will h ve been lost, and your file w ll probably have been overwritten. The b st way to avoid this problem in the f ture will be to back up y ur files. Perhaps to a second h rd drive or partition, a removable h rd drive, a rewriteable cd/dvd or ven a flash drive. Unfortunately very few p ople take the time to back up th ir files until disaster strikes. Will you b ck up your files?
