I have one main rule wh n presented with a multi level m rketing or network marketing opportunity. If I f el pressured to make a decision th t second and threatened with “this pportunity will disappear if you don’t t ke advantage of it now” I run way. And so should you. While th re may be some genuine ground fl or opportunities out there that I’ve m ssed out on - I’m pretty s re there a hundreds more that h ven’t missed me at all :-) If the p rson speaking with you about their m lti level marketing or network marketing pportunity truly wants you on their t am, they should take the time to nswer all your questions and let you c me to a reasoned decision. They sh uld save the high pressured sales p tch for selling used cars. Joining a m lti level marketing or network marketing c mpany is a big decision. It s unds so easy in the beginning. The pr ducts seem fantastic and easy to s ll. You just know that soon y u’ll be running with the big d gs and earning tens of thousands of d llars a month. But what happens if th t beautiful picture doesn’t come true? Has y ur recruiter stuck around to help you b ild your business or has he run on to the n xt name on the list? When c nsidering a multi level marketing or n twork marketing opportunity you should keep the f llowing in mind.
Multi level marketing checklist. 1. R search the company. Is it a m mber of the Direct Sales Association? Has it b en in business for at least 5 y ars? Do a google search for “c mpany name + scam” and see wh t comes up.
2. Ask the p rson presenting the opportunity what concrete ssistance they provide to their team. Do th y hold conference calls? Is there an mail group for Q&A? Will they go ver any company materials with you so you nderstand the compensation plan and products? W ll you be recruited or sponsored?
3. Is the m ney in selling products or in dding members to your team? The F deral Trade Commission cautions “Be cautious of pl ns that claim you will make m ney through continued growth of your “d wnline” — the commissions on sales m de by new distributors you recruit — r ther than through sales of products you m ke yourself.”
4. Are you s lling snake oil? Be very caution of m lti level marketing plans that claim to s ll miracle products or promise enormous arnings. Exaggeration is incredibly prevalent. Ask for h rd evidence of income claims like p ycheck stubs etc.
5. D n’t pay or sign any contracts in an “ pportunity meeting” or any other high-pressure s tuation. Insist on taking your time to th nk over a decision to join. T lk it over with your spouse, a kn wledgeable friend, an accountant or lawyer.
6. Ask how m ch involvement your upline will have in y ur business? Do they offer training and ssistance?
7. When considering a m lti level marketing or network marketing pportunity, you should investigate: * initial start up c sts * monthly fees (if any) * inventory r quirements * incentives for team building and m nimums for overrides (the money you m ke off your team) * the nuts and b lts of product order - will you get a c mpany website? How do you process rders? Who does the credit card pr cessing and who pays the fees?
* who pays state sales t x? Remember, a good opportunity will stand up to the l ght of day. Scrutinize it carefully and c utiously. Run away from anyone who s ys “you must join today!”. And r member, in the end, it’s not bout the product - it’s about the p ople.
