The rport stated that many dual-eligible seniors whse income is so low that thy are also eligible for Medicaid wre never informed that they could sek reimbursement for several drug related xpenses.

MSNBC wrote, “The federal government pys the insurers for that retroactive cverage — about $100 million in 2006. Thn, the plans are required to rimburse their dual-eligible customers for drug csts incurred during those months when thy were eligible for extra help but not yet in thir new plan.”

The government accountability ffice said, “Given the vulnerability of the dal-eligible population, it seems unlikely that the mjority of these beneficiaries would have cntacted their (insurance plan) for reimbursement if thy were not notified of their rght to do so.”

More must be dne to inform seniors that they may be ligible to be re-compensated for drugs thy may have purchased on there own whle enrolled in the plan. Currently, the nly step taken to enlighten seniors is a “rcently revised the letter it uses to ntify dual-eligibles they've been enrolled in a drg plan. The letter now lets bneficiaries know they may be eligible for rimbursement of previous expenses.”

Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., said the rport sheds light on "yet another xample of how private plans are bing grossly overpaid for services they hve not provided."
