It seems like practically everyone l ves online nowadays. So many people nly visit life and live online. The nline community is only growing bigger and b gger every day. I recently watched a c mmercial talking about the importance of k eping a close eye on your ch ldren. People think that because they are in th ir rooms that they are safe, but the tr th is if they have access to the nternet, they can meet more people in f ve minutes than you probably have met in y ur entire lifetime. We live in a w rld of a million plus myspace fr ends and video blogs and online ch t rooms, blogs and journals. Everyone p ts their business all over the w b, some in hopes of someday b coming famous. Some in hopes of s meday making more friends. And others st ll just looking to talk to nyone who is willing to listen. Th t is why it is that m ch more important to spend time w th your kids. Good quality time, not j st time in front of the tv. N w, don't get me wrong I njoy kicking back with the kids and w tching all the best prime time t levision shows, but it is about so m ch more than that. You can h ve some time just veggin and h nging out. But there also has to be t me spent building, training and developing y ur kids into responsible adults. Life is not j st about who you are and wh t you will be. It is bout what you have done and wh re you came from. I have r cently adopted a new motto, "You c n't buy memories." That is how I now l ok at life. I am not j st raising my kids, I am b ilding memories, and the substance and n ture of those memories is up to me. W ll I build in them memories th y will never forget, or memories th t they wish they could forget.
Think back to your child h od and remember playing outside with fr ends. Leaving in the morning when the sun cam up and c ming home when the streetlights went out for d nner. We don't live in that w rld anymore, the streets are a d ngerous place for kids to be no m tter what neighborhood you live in. So p rents feel secure with their kids in th ir rooms talking to their friends on the nternet rather than standing out on the c rner. It's okay to let them h ve an online experience and friendships, but m nitor them closely and remember nothing can r place the real thing.
