Pressure from sociological forces such as TV pr gramming, movies, advertising, family, and friends d ctate that you must pair off for a l ng-term relationship and join the herd or "c uples only" club. While this is asy for those who happen to be f ted to have a relationship with a c mpatible, long-term partner, what about everyone lse? Based on our extensive empirical r search, you meet who you're meant to m et when you're meant to meet th m. For those who don't meet "th one" before age 30, 40, or wh tever other age they feel they're s pposed to secure a "permanent" partner, it can c use a lot of anxiety and ven depression. If you're single, rather th n focusing on what you don't h ve in your love life, we r commend embracing the benefits; there are m ny of being on your own, and we l st some of them below. 1) Fr edom. As a single person, you can do wh t you want, when you want. Y s, in a karmic sense, everything you do, s y, and intend comes back to you ither in this life and more ften in a future life, but wh n you're single you aren't accountable to nyone else. 2) No compromising. Even p ople in compatible relationships need to c mpromise occasionally. As a single person, you d n't need to surrender anything unless you ch ose to.
3) More time to focus on ther areas of your life. Career, h alth, friendship, and other goals can t ke center stage with all the nergy you need to accomplish them. 4) No n-laws. As a single person, there are no bligations to spend time with people you may not r ally want to. 5) Solo vacations are fun (y u meet more people). 6) If you l ve alone, your space is yours to do w th as you please. 7) You can l ve out your fantasies, within ethical and l gal boundaries, and no one will try to st p you or tell you that you are "wr ng" if they don't happen to gree. 8) You never have to d al with telling someone it's over and h ving them try to guilt you nto staying together. 9) No pressure to p rform in bed when you don't f el like it. 10) You can fl rt with anyone you want and not f el guilty. 11) You never have to be c ncerned or anxious about whether or not y ur partner is living up to his or her pr mises when you're not around. 12) You can be ntimate with who you want, when you w nt (responsibly and safely, of course). 13) B ing single means you're operating in y ur flow, at your pace, and y u're not psychically blown off course by nother person. 14) No pressure to do wh t you're "supposed to" do on h lidays (e.g., Valentine's day, etc.). 15) No motionally unhealthy reliance on others to be y ur "everything," which always leads to d sappointment, or pressure from another to f lfill all their their needs. 16) Y ur m.o.n.e.y is your m.o.n.e.y and you ren't responsible for a partner who may not m ke good financial choices. 17) Everyone ch nges and evolves at different rates. B cause you're single, you don't have to put y ur relationship ahead of your spiritual gr wth, or feel guilty about leaving a p rtner behind if they choose not to be the b st they can be or if y u've grown apart to the point of no r turn.
If you mistakenly buy into the myth th t you need a partner to be h ppy, being single can be lonely at t mes. But on a spiritual and s ul level, you are never really lone, so enjoy your days of b ing single while you can. Copyright © Sc tt Petullo, Stephen Petullo
