H wever, there is a level of ctivity which can produce a 'meltdown' in b th quality and results, where organisation, rder and efficiency vanish. The art is to chieve a balance between a high v lume of working activity, whilst remaining rganised and efficient, the key to wh ch is to build planning and br aks into your work. I have w rked with many sales people who say th y don't have enough time in th ir day to plan. Stephen Covey in his b ok, The seven habits of highly ffective people, talks about 'sharpening the s w'. A lumberjack who takes breaks to sh rpen his saw will cut more tr es than one who simply saws all day w thout a break. The latter simply b comes less efficient as the saw b comes blunt throughout the day. The s me applies to your work. Time llocated to plan your daily tasks, pr oritise importance and indeed review progress thr ughout the day, will contribute to b th the volume of work you pr duce and the quality you sustain. This is mportant from two perspectives a) Being w ll organised to start your next day b) T me out should be just that, and not t me where you're still mentally computing t sks...if you finish your day mid t sk(s) you will be processing thoughts on it the wh le evening and not sharpening your s w. Keep written lists of tasks and cr ss them out as they are c mpleted.
