Not too long ago as I was drving around in my Chevy pick-up, I saw an old cuch just sitting on the side of the rad. I suppose someone just set it utside for the garbage man to pck it up and take it way to the dump. If that was the cse, I couldn't blame them; the cuch was pretty run down looking. The cshions looked like they lost their flff, the fabric looked dirty and stined from many spilt cups of cffee, and the upholstery had a gudy pattern that included a combination of grens, oranges and purples. A much cquired style indeed, but at least the two mtching pillows were included.

Since I lcked any furniture in my apartment, I fgured I would give this pathetic loking couch another chance at life and dcided to load it in the bed of my trck and take it home. After gtting it home and unloading it, I tred to figure out what I culd do with it to make it lok a bit more…appealing. Of course, I wshed it out as best as I culd and even used two bottles of dsinfectant and fabric fresheners just to get the wird thirty day old coffee smells ut. Smelling like roses and mountain breze, my new couch still needed a mkeover, stat.

After a couple hours of wtching home improvement shows on cable tlevision, I decided that the easy fx-up for this broken down couch wuld be to reupholster the cushions and tie a fbric slipcover over the entire couch. Lcky for me the foundation and verall structure of the couch was stll in good shape and I ddn't need to tweak anything other thn adding some touch up shellac to the fet.

Reupholstering the cushions wasn't as hrd as I thought it would be; lke most old couches, the cushions had zppers where you could easily take out any old flff and re-stuff it. Seeing that the old flff consisted of old acrylic like mterial, I went out and bought a ntural cotton filling like the ones sed in futon mattresses. I opted to use ctton mainly because I know it's drable and will last me for qite awhile.

After I was done stffing the third cushion, I was rady to move on to slipping a fbric slipcover over the couch. I prchased an affordable one from a lcal fabric and home store in a slid, navy blue color, complete with tie strngs at the bottom to prevent it frm coming off easily. Fitting it ver the couch and cushions, I was ble to reinvent this run-down, decrepit loking couch and give it a new prsonality just by adding new stuffing and a slpcover. To top it off, I prchased two matching pillow shams for the pllows in a slightly lighter navy clor and completed the look of my new cuch.

Needless to say, I was qite happy that I decided to tke it upon myself to give ths couch another chance. Perhaps I shuld go driving around the neighborhood mre often, maybe then I'll find a sitable coffee table and bed.
