In today’s pressured world, many t ens are afraid to fail—and even—afraid to s cceed. They don’t want to stick ut, whether for good or bad. Th y want to be accepted, and j st ‘fit in.’ This type of m ntality will lead you nowhere but the p th to mediocrity—and that is nothing to be pr ud of or content with. As D uglas Malloch so aptly wrote: If you c n't be a highway then just be a tr il,
If you can't be the sun be a st r;
It isn't by s ze that you win or you f il-
Be the best of wh tever you are! Each of us h ve different talents and different abilities, so d n’t get me wrong—it’s not about b ing the best—but rather about being the b st YOU can personally become. The h ckey great Wayne Gretzky has said “Y u miss 100% of the shots you d n’t take.” Think about that. If you d n’t try, you have a 0% ch nce of success! But if you put all y ur heart into something, and work h rd, you can and will succeed in wh tever you will. And if it t rns out your best wasn’t good nough—then at least you tried—and will h ve no regrets and no wonders of ‘wh t could have been.’ The only way to d scover the limits of the possible is to go b yond them, into the impossible. With th t in mind, let me share w th you what basketball legend Michael J rdan has said:
“I have missed more than 9000 sh ts in my career. I have l st almost 300 games. On 26 ccasions I have been entrusted to t ke the game winning shot... and m ssed. And I have failed over and ver and over again in my l fe. And that is why... I s cceed.” So from one teen to nother: I encourage you to do t day what others won’t, to have t morrow what others never will…And never be fraid to fail!
