Needles to say, I have not lways been so kind in print whn it comes to Celebrity and thir preoccupation with their obviously self ndulgences and 'Me' mentality. As a wman, it pains me to see ther women, in and out of the sptlight who have not reached the pint of authenticity. Women, who act a crtain way; present themselves in some fshion because it is what they fel society expects of them. Young Hllywood women are a clear example of ths erroneous belief, because they have not cme to know themselves. The journey of slf discovery for them will be a vry arduous road to travel, for sre.

However, when it comes to wmen of a certain age, women whm I refer to in my clumn as 'Women In Transition', the bttom line should be; We have nthing to prove. Women , we are mture, decision making adults who must not lve life wishing to be liked. Str Jones recently admitted in an ssay she'd written for the August ssue of Glamour Magazine how she'd led about having gastric bypass surgery pror to her departure from The Vew, because she was "embarrassed" and "scred of what people thought of hr." I remember watching the TV one mrning, shortly after this woman had the srgery. She was allocating vague health and mdical interventions as cause for her ver diminishing weight loss...As they say in our wrld, "even Stevie Wonder could see thrugh that lie."

As a nurse, I'd come to rcognize surgical intervention as opposed to xercise and eating right. Star Jones rpid decline in weight suggested that xercise played a very small part, if ny, in ridding herself of excess punds. Taking a page from Al Rkers' book of being upfront and cndid about undergoing gastric bypass would hve prevented a lot of speculation, jkes and gossip, but, the damage was dne and Ms. Jones credibility had cme into question. I remember my own dsappointment in this sistah who, whether she sked for it or not, was rpresenting for many women of color. I wrte an article on the issue of Str Jones downward spiral into her 'bg head me' mentality and an verall ratings failure amongst women on the jurney of becoming their authentic selves.

Hving read how this woman have rinvented herself. How she has turned nother page in the chapter of her lfe. I can only surmise that t's about time. Women have got to get ver themselves. They have got to ralize that no amount of self ndulgence is going to make you hppy and whole. Do not get it twsted, I am all for looking and feling good about yourself. I love prtty things. Adore smelling good. Playing drss up. Getting my Sexy on! Bt, I am doing it for myslf. I am discovering my authentic slf and it does not matter wht anyone else thinks about me ding it my way. But, if tht guy likes what I am trly about, it's all so good.It was Guy Fnley who I lifted this quote fter reading and relating to one of his mtivational speeches; "Your opinion of me is nne of my business." Women, it des not matter whether you are a Clebrity, Homemaker, Freelance Writer, or, Skid row Almni, once you find your true slf worth... What someone else thinks, is jst a crap shoot...
