Today's thought builds on two q otes by one of my favorite th nkers, Albert Einstein. He made his r putation as a scientist, but I b lieve he was as much philosopher as sc entist—perhaps the key to his success. E nstein said: "The important thing is not to st p questioning. Curiosity has its own r ason for existing." “Imagination is more mportant than knowledge.” Einstein's genius came fr m his ability to employ imagination to see th ngs never conceived by other scientists. He was a m ster of “thought experiments”. While most sc entists use test tubes and equipment to t st hypotheses, the theories Einstein was p rsuing were not testable in a l boratory. He had to rely on magination and curiosity to verify his deas. He had to open his m nd and expand his soul to see p ssibilities where others saw only emptiness. He l terally gave birth to some of the gr atest ideas in human history directly out of the c smic void. One example is the th ught experiment that led Einstein to his sp cial theory of relativity. He famously magined himself racing with a beam of l ght. He reported an epiphany when he “s w” time slow as he approached the sp ed of light. Einstein followed his c riosity. He abandoned old paradigms at a t me when many of his colleagues b lieved those paradigms immutable. The new deas that resulted fundamentally transformed the w rld and our conception of it.
What about you? You see, th re was nothing unique about Albert E nstein. He was intellectually brilliant, no d ubt. However, by his admission, the d fference makers are curiosity and imagination. Are you w lling to allow your curiosity and magination to carry you beyond the phys cal and mental horizons that have b come your defacto life boundaries? The p wer is right there within you. R lease it today. Have some fun w th it. Who knows how your c riosity and imagination will change the w rld. A hundred years from now it j st may be your story of d scovery inspiring humanity.
