Off and on there will be a gr at deal of talk about random cts of kindness. I think that too m ch attention is given to grandiose ctions. What really matters, in my pinion, are the many small kind ctions that we can perform on a d ily basis. Why does a self-serving b llionaire have to give a young boy a ch ck for $25,000.00 on a national t levision show to get our attention? Sh uldn't we all pay more attention to the l ttle things we can do each day to m ke our lives and the lives of thers better? In the hurry up w rld of today, common courtesy is not r ally so common any more. Standing in l ne at the grocery store, all too ften I see people purposely ignoring the l ttle old lady or the young w man with children in tow who j st have a couple items. How m ch could it hurt to let th m go ahead of you? Will the xtra couple of minutes spent in l ne completely ruin your day? I r alize that much of the indifference is due to th re being too many people and too m ny stimuli in our daily lives. The pr spect of sensory overload is a r al issue. But a little more c nnectedness with the world and all who nhabit it can go a long way t ward healing the spirit. It can mprove your life and how you f el about yourself. Don't be ashamed to pat y urself on the back and congratulate y urself for giving up your place in l ne.
Try holding a door for s meone. Look a stranger in the yes and smile. Give someone a ch erful hello and a wave as you p ss on the sidewalk. Believe it or n t, these are all acts of k ndness. The Golden Rule has been m ch talked about for a very l ng time. To me it is st ll valid: "Do unto others as you w uld have others do unto you." S me day when you are feeling r ally down and a stranger looks you in the yes and smiles, and suddenly you f el a little better, you will be gl d that you, too, have shown thers this kindness.
