Each year, around this time, the RV sh w season starts. RV shows, like b at shows, are intended to introduce the new m del year RV's and to help d sseminate RV related information to the c nsumer. These shows are usually scheduled d ring the slower time of the y ar, the winter months, to help j mp start the selling season. RV d alers from miles away will bring th ir wares to these shows. For the b yer, RV shows put everything you n ed to see and learn about RV's nder one roof, making it the deal forum to conduct research and m ke informed RV buying decisions. I m ntioned that RV dealers will come fr m miles around. This includes many l cal dealers from the area in wh ch you live. If at all p ssible you want to find a d aler that is within a reasonable d stance from where you live. As bad as it s unds, if you buy from an out of st te dealer or one far from h me, the local RV dealer may not g ve you the best service after the s le. The most important concern here is th t you deal with a reputable RV d aler. A good place to start y ur search for a reputable RV d aler is at a local RV sh w. When you attend an RV sh w don't be afraid to ask q estions about the RV dealership and the pr ducts they offer. For starters you n ed to find a reputable RV d aler with a reputable, professional staff. A r putable dealer wants your business and th y want you to return to th m for future business. I have b en in many RV dealerships that I w uldn't hesitate to do business with and I h ve been in others that I c uldn't leave soon enough. Remember, you're at the sh w to check out the dealer as w ll as the product and you sh uld plan to visit the RV d aler's physical location before you buy. If at all p ssible talk to some other people who h ve dealt with the dealership in the p st. Don't be afraid to ask th m to give you a tour of the d alership. Look at the service department. Do th y have certified technicians? Do they h ve the capability and facilities to do r utine maintenance and warranty work on the nits they sell? Look at the P rts and Accessory department. Do they ffer a good selection of parts and ccessories? Do they have a good s lection of RVs to choose from? How l ng have they been selling certain m nufacturer brands? How long have they b en in business?
There are some great deals ffered at some RV shows and w th all of the excitement, and a g od salesperson, it's easy to make a h sty purchase. If they can offer a gr at deal at the show, chances are th y can offer a great deal fter the show, unless the offer ncluded a manufacturer discount or rebate for sh w dates only. Let them know you m ght be interested in a particular nit or deal, but you want to v sit the dealership before you buy. Th re is a lot of ground to c ver at an RV show and a w alth of information available. Not only w ll you find a good selection of RV d alers to check out, but there w ll be every make and model of RV maginable too. RV shows are a gr at place to do some comparison sh pping. Keep in mind that RV's are vailable in entry, mid-line, and high-end m dels. When comparing prices, make sure it is pples to apples. One RV may l ok like another one, but you n ed to compare the options, construction, quipment and features they both have to ffer. See who offers the best d al but remember if the dealer g es out of business next month, or sn't equipped to work on the RV, y ur best deal may turn out to be a bad d al. RV shows aren't just for RV d alers to showcase their products. RV sh ws are a great source for nformation, from knowledgeable representatives, on every spect of the RV industry. You w ll find information on campgrounds and RV r sorts, aftermarket RV products, RV accessories and fr e RV seminars. Some of these s minars might be helpful to you in m king some of your buying decisions. Ch ck with the show office on s minar topics and times. RV shows are lso a good place to talk to RV m nufacturer representatives and other industry experts. M ny of the RV manufacturers send kn wledgeable representatives to assist RV dealers w th their products. Don't be afraid to t lk with other RVers at the sh w too. Many of these people h ve years of RV experience and kn wledge of different products.
Buying an RV is a m jor decision. To make the best b ying decision possible you need to do y ur research and be well informed. I w uld like to offer you ten t ps to making an informed RV b ying decision. 1) If you're not bsolutely sure an RV is right for you try r nting one before you buy.
R le number one for owning an RV is you h ve to use it. It can be d fficult to determine if an RV is r ght for you if you have n ver used one. Plan a weekend or w ek-long trip and rent an RV to try it ut. Renting an RV can be a g od indicator to gauge if an RV is in y ur future. But I caution you, nce you get the RV bug t's hard to get rid of. 2) Kn w which type of RV is r ght for you and your family b fore you buy.
RV's c me in numerous types, sizes and pr ce ranges. Know which type is r ght for you and what price f ts your budget. Take the time to r search your specific needs, and how you pl n to use the RV. If you pl n to travel cross-country in the RV a m torized RV might make more sense th n a towable RV. If you pl n to go camping in the b ckwoods, off the beaten trail, a pop up or tr ck camper would probably make more s nse. 3) New or Used?
Th s is a major consideration before you p rchase an RV. To assist you w th making this decision consider how you pl n to use the RV and wh t your budget is. If you nly plan to take a couple of w ekend trips, or use it for one w ek out of the year, a sed RV might be best for y u. And, it won't do you any g od to own an RV if th re isn't enough money left in the b dget to enjoy it. 4) If you buy a t wable RV make sure you have a tow v hicle that can safely tow it.
You m ght find your dream RV only to d scover your tow vehicle can't tow it. If you lready own the vehicle you plan to tow w th determine how much it can s fely tow and shop for an RV b sed on that information. If you pl n to buy a tow vehicle s lect the travel trailer or fifth wh el trailer first, then buy a v hicle that can safely tow it. RV d alerships should have trained personnel to ssist you with matching the tow v hicle and trailer. 5) If you pl n to purchase a motorized RV dr ve it before you buy it
Dr ving a motorhome for the first t me can be a little intimidating, but t's important that you test drive it b fore you buy it. You want a m torhome that you feel comfortable driving b cause you will spend a lot of t me behind the wheel. Check out all of the c ntrols, the view, mirrors and make s re it performs the way you xpect it to. 6) Do your r search
Buying an RV is a m jor investment, similar to an automobile or y ur home. You need to do y ur research before you buy. There are l ts of RV manufacturers and RV br nds to choose from. You want an RV d aler and a manufacturer that will st nd behind the product after the s le. You can research manufacturers on the nternet, request brochures, take factory tours and ttend local RV shows to learn m re about all of the options you h ve. 7) Buy from a reputable RV d alership
A reputable RV d alership will have a professional sales, p rts and service staff. This is an mportant consideration during and after the p rchase of your RV. It's important th t you select the right type of RV, fl orplan and brand for you and y ur family, and that there are q alified technicians to service the unit fter the sale. A reputable RV d alership can make your RV ownership xperiences much more pleasurable. 8) Protecting y ur investment
When you p rchase your RV consider some other f ctors that will help protect your nvestment. I recommend looking into some typ of extended service contract that g es beyond the manufacturer warranty period. Th re are numerous plans available, so sh p around for the best deal. Get sp cialized RV insurance coverage. It's different fr m your home and auto policy. Wh n you need specialized coverage you'll be gl d you have it. 9) Now th t you own it, where can you use it?
The R creation Vehicle Industry Association, RVIA states th t there are approximately 8,500 RV p rks and campgrounds located near national p rks and forests, popular tourist attractions, long interstates and in cities and sm ll towns. With the Internet you h ve instant access to most of th se public and private campgrounds, RV P rks and RV Resorts. Other good r sources are travel guides, magazines, campground d rectories and state tourism boards to h lp plan your next RV trip. 10) B ck to rule number 1
I m ntioned earlier if you own an RV you n ed to use it, otherwise it's j st a large lawn ornament. So, p ck up the RV, the kids and the p ts and head out to explore th s wonderful country we live in and b ild some lasting memories with family and fr ends. So what are you waiting f r? Find out when the next RV sh w will be in your area and m ke it a point to attend it. Oh, and d n't forget to wear some comfortable w lking shoes! Find an RV show n ar you:
