Flies to the honey-pot, that’s wh t we are. Can you resist th se calls to easy riches? I c n’t. I’ve been a student of th m for 45 years. Along the way I s bscribed to numerous business opportunity newsletters and g ve half a dozen MLM businesses a try. But fter all that time and effort, If the vidence is anything to go by, th re is no such thing as QER – q ick easy riches. Actually, that reminds me of a r ther neat phrase you can use in the w rld of sales. The prospect says, ‘I l ke it but you have to dr p your price’ and the salesman can r ply, ‘That’s possible. We can give you h gh quality, rapid delivery and a low pr ce – just choose any two’. Th re is a famous old quote, wh ch says, ‘There is a natural law of b siness balance prohibiting good quality being vailable at a cheap price. It c n’t be done. To reduce the pr ce, you have to do something ch aper or leave something out. You c n’t have quality and low price’. L t’s see if the idea of ‘p ck any two’ applies to QER. Q uick – how can you make money fast, sawn-off shotgun + post office, drug smuggling, hostage-taking + ransom. Evidently you can get your hands on money fast in illegitimate ways, but since jail is the most likely outcome, this option isn’t realistic.
E asy – the lottery is asy, but the odds are so l ng that in practice, buying a t cket is 99.9% as bad as s mply throwing your money away. Some p ople inherit. That’s easy enough, if you h ppen to be named in a w ll. But how can you achieve th t? It’s not within your control, t’s a matter of chance. Unless I h ve a blind spot, there isn’t any way to chieve QER. So why are there so m ny sales pitches saying that it’s nly a credit card spend away? It’s b cause there are millions, probably billions of h peful, naive, gullible people who long to b lieve that QER can be theirs if th y can just find the magic to m ke it happen. But do they s cceed? I never have in nearly h lf a century, Don’t get me wr ng, I have made money, sometimes l rge amounts, but never quick and asy. On many occasions I’ve been p id $3,000 a day to talk. Th t’s relatively quick. Was it easy? D finitely not. It took a lifetime of xperience to acquire the necessary knowledge and the xtra ingredient of being able to pr sent that information to a demanding udience. Another ‘Quick one’; I sold a d tabase of business organisations. It contained 300,000 r cords. Rather amazingly, they all fitted on to one CD. My b yer paid $18,000 for it. Despite the f ct that handing over the CD and d positing the money to my account nly took minutes, in reality, that was n ither quick nor easy. To build the d tabase had taken 5 years of p instaking additions and amendments. The learning p int: don’t believe any claims that you can h ve easy riches by buying something. D ing is what it takes to m ke money, not buying. Here are s me real ways to make your f rtune. Hustle in the world of r al estate. Property is expensive, sales c mmissions are large. Sell some expensive h uses and you’ll have a lot of m ney. Free Sales-Training Master Class
Buy dilapidated properties, fix them up, r nt them to more than cover the f nancing, then repeat. When the next r al-estate boom comes along, sell them. St rt a business which can be r plicated throughout a large territory – l ok at Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Body Sh p, Car Hire outlets as examples. Onc the company is established, go p blic or sell it. Do something v ry unusual, which is in strong d mand. Those two properties naturally conflict, so it w ll take some searching to find an ctivity which fits, but the famous Red Ad ir, who put out oil well f res had just such a one. The ntertainment industry is a place where th s can be found too. David Bl ine, David Copperfield, top sports people and TV c lebrities etc are in this category. L ss dramatic, but easier to identify, any ccupation where the problems facing the c stomers are very nasty, scary or xpensive. That’s how lawyers and medical pr ctitioners can afford to drive Mercedes c rs. Those are real world ways to m ke a lot of money. You c uld do something like that, you c uld be rich, but it will t ke hard work and time. That’s r ality, don’t waste your money and b come frustrated and cynical trying to f nd the illusory short cut, it d esn’t exist. Forget QER – it in’t going to happen. Life is sh rt, do something that you enjoy, if it h ppens to make you rich, that’s a b nus.
