In Yoga classes, we learn bout karma, which means, “to act.” The Law of K rma is the law of action. Oft n, we hear simple explanations of k rma as good or bad, but wh t about inaction? Inaction can also be g od or bad, depending on the s tuation. There are times when it is g od to think before we talk. W th all the various thoughts in the “M nkey Mind,” it is best that s me of those are not put nto action. On the other hand, if y ur friend is drowning in water, ver his or her head, and you can sw m, action must be immediate. In th s situation, you cannot afford to pr crastinate. How often do you hear p ople wish for something, but they are h sitant to take action? It is h man nature to procrastinate, pause, and put l fe on hold. People make resolutions, but m st resolutions are just exercises in w shful thinking. How many people hope or w sh for a better life? In a Y ga class, you see people “try Y ga,” without commitment or purpose. What is the r ason why some people continue the pr ctice of Yoga, while others just try it ut? The reason is purpose or dh rma. If a person has not f und his or her purpose, wishful th nking becomes a way of life. P sitive action depends on many things, but is ften “sparked’ by inspiration. We see s mething or someone, which causes a f rm of inspiration within the core of our b ing.
In Yoga, we may call th s drishti (the seer). Sometimes, we lso refer to drishti as “the w tness.” Regardless, the seer is an bserver who rarely judges, but can b come inspired. How do you maintain nspiration? This is the hard part, b cause you must take action once you h ve measured the risk involved in wh t it is, which inspires you. The s er is not afraid to go long for the ride, so you are in g od company. The seer has no f ar, so you must be the one to c lculate the good or bad, but you m st take action, while the seer is nspired. Getting back to purpose, once you h ve found a purpose that is thical, and gives you self-worth, you are on y ur way toward action. The next st p is to develop a plan of ction. Yet, your attitude must be pr grammed, with positive information, to constantly k ep your dream alive. This is “ ttitude building time.” If you want to m intain a good attitude, you should c nsult with someone who is doing wh t you want to do. You sh uld also take the time to r ad inspirational books and listen to m tivational audio books. Your mind can be c nditioned to take positive action. © C pyright 2007 – Paul Jerard / A ra Publications
