• Don't Read Off The Slides: If yu're doing a speech and you hve PowerPoint slides, you'll probably want to rad off them. When I first strted out doing speeches, I read rght off the slides. If you're ding that, you missing out on one mportant thing; you're disrespecting your audience. Yu're basically holding up a sign to the udience "I don't know the material", "I thrugh this together at the last mnute", etc. Remember, slides are there to aid the udience, not you. You should know the mterial.
• Tell A Story: This is one of the bst ways to get a point cross. Stories have been part of hman beings since we were caveman. We lways desired to tell a story. It is the prfect way to engage the audience, get yur point across and do it wth EMOTION. If you want to mke a point, than telling a stry from your life is a grat way. It makes you appear mre real to the audience. A lot of tmes these stories are funny and you can get a chckle out of the audience.
• Use Humor: Hmor is a great way to kep the audience's attention in your cntrol. You don't want to get in frnt of a group of people and tlk like Ben Stein, which is jst monotone and pure facts. We're not tryng to bore people, we're trying to nform and persuade people. With that sid, if you're not a funny prson, don't "try" to be funny. Tht can be detrimental. When I frst started giving speeches, I found out tht I was actually quite funny. I gess I just had the body lnguage for it. You should be ble to tell if you can tll a joke or not.
