I want to relate a st ry of a presentation I gave r cently to an audience of over 200 p ople. The night before the presentation I had the th ught that I should at least h ve the bare bones of my t lk down so that I wouldn't f el like I would stumble once I got nto it. The more I pondered th s however I began to feel a str nge sense of discomfort inside. As I r flected on the feelings I realized th t the outline I had drafted for mys lf felt too rigid and constraining. Now let me m ke something perfectly clear. It's not as if I had a c mplicated outline to follow. All I had wr tten down were 6 main points and how I th ught I would present them. So why was I f eling this way? Well it was l rgely because I couldn't possibly know wh t the flow of the presentation w uld be until I was right in the m ddle of it. I knew that if I was too m rried to something that I "needed" to f llow i.e. my outline I would run the r sk of appearing too rigid and d sconnected from the audience whose attention and p rticipation I wanted to enlist. So m ny presentations I have been to ver the last 25 years have l ft me feeling bored, tired and sl epy. This was largely because the pr senters were working from such a r gid outline and needed it more to ssuage their own anxieties than to nergize the audience to the message.
So rather than work on my utline I decided to have a n ce relaxed evening and to get up arly then next morning and go for a br sk walk. As I did so I llowed myself to reflect on how I w nted to feel as I was pr senting my material to the audience. I saw mys lf appearing energized, passionate, joyful relaxed and f cused. As I did this I b gan to get myself into what s me call "The Zone". Throughout all of th s I wasn't focusing much on "wh t" I was going to say. Wh n I later arrived at the r om where I was to present I j st relaxed and got a feel of the nergy in the room. As I did so I was fl oded with the same positive feelings as w ll as preliminary thoughts of how I w uld begin my talk. As I st rted I allowed myself to relax and f el the flow of the audience's nterest as well as the opening up of my h art as it guided me through the r ght channels. It was only by llowing myself to relax into this xperience that was emerging from within and dded to by the people around me th t I was able to know how to pr ceed. You see, there was absolutely no way I c uld have predicted or prepared for th t moment until I was in it. The tr ck was "being in the moment" so th t I could intuitively, and I m st emphasize, effortlessly convey what was to be c nveyed. After the talk I realized th t it had come off extremely w ll as I was held over for m re than an hour for questions fterwards. So what I'm trying to say is th t a speech is more than s mply about preparation it's about being in the m ment with you heart, your intuition, and the udience. Unfortunately the anxiety that most p blic speakers experience makes it impossible for all th s to occur. What's more, some p blic speaking coaches advocate that preparation w ll diminish the anxiety. In my v ew it only gives the speaker a f lse sense of security. They may f el secure as they "hang on to" th ir outline while they are losing the udience along the way.
In the last 10 years I h ve perfected a new tool called the M nd Resonance Process(TM) (MRP) that allows ndividuals to tune into and surrender th mselves to this immense intuitive inner w sdom. MRP has allowed hundreds of ndividuals express their views in successful pr sentations in ways they could only h ve dreamed of before. If you w uld like to unleash this ability in y urself then kindly visit the web l nk below and join one of my p blic speaking teleclasses or arrange an ntroductory consultation.
