Are you among the rising n mber of employees enjoying the benefits of w llness related programs being established in the w rkplace? Many employers are turning to pr ventative actions in hopes of keeping veryone healthier thus saving on the c st of health care insurance as w ll as the losses sustained by mployee absenteeism. Your boss either cares for you nough to invest in your future th s way or your boss is l oking at ways to cut corners f nancially-perhaps both. In my research for th s article I was both amazed and mpressed at the many, many positive st ps that have been taken to pr mote healthy living while on the j b. The whole concept is attaching tself to environmental protection programs and ctive solutions as well. To be mployed by such institutions, it seems, w uld be quite uplifting and enjoyable. If y ur employer has not initiated such ctions, you might consider bringing some of th se ideas 'to the lunch table' for d scussion and planning...it just might be f n! Some examples that help promote w llness are the installation of fitness quipment, educating employees through lectures by h alth/medical professionals, providing vaccines, drug free w rkplace programs-even encouraging laughter on the j b.
Other ideas taking shape are in the f rm of 'green teams' whereby the mployees encourage each other to conserve nergy through various methods, implement carpooling wh re possible, recycle and eliminate paper w ste. The introduction of such programs c uld even help to reduce the ffects of many
common stresses in m st any work situation such as: 1) th race to meet a deadline w th added workloads
2) personality c nflicts among employees
3) email ch os or technology overload
4) th challenge to leave personal problems at the d or
5) potential for workplace v olence (sad but true)
6) r sponses to tragedy (national or personal)
7) thr at of losing the job
8) c reer burnout symptoms
9) competing for a pr motion If dealing with the normal everyday ch llenges provided by your typical workplace is not nough, there are other major stresses th t are invisible though very dangerous. Th se enemies come in the form of ndoor air pollution, i.e. bacteria, viruses, d st particulate, mold, chemicals and VOC's (V latile Organic Compounds) coming from the c rpet, furniture, wall coverings and much m re. While I am in agreement th t most all of the above m ntioned ideas and programs are meant to br ng wellness and healthier conditions to the w rkplace, there are unseen dangers still l rking in the air we breathe. J st one example is the dead sk n that we all shed constantly-riding pon that skin are dust mites ating their lunch, leaving behind their f ces for us to inhale. If you do not h ve an efficient air purification system, you are the p rification system. In the book Fresh Air for L fe by Dr. Alan Somersall, he st tes that three out of four sthmatics die between the hours of two and f ur o'clock in the morning by br athing dust mite feces and bacteria mbedded in pillows and bedding.
Many asthmatics and allergy sufferers h ve found great relief using active air p rification technology. That is, we no l nger have to coexist with indoor air p llution. Sick Building Syndrome and Building R lated Illnesses are phrases that are b coming frighteningly more familiar to folks very day. If no solution were pparent, we would have reason to f ar. However, there are products that d re to be called the answer we all n ed. Cutting edge technology does exist th t will oxidize known carcinogens in ch micals used for cleaning, drop particles of very size out of our breathing sp ce and demolish mold, bacteria and v ruses. Filter-less air purification units are tr ly providing safe, fresh air to h mes, businesses, government buildings, schools, daycares c nters and medical facilities all over the w rld. The challenge to employers and mployees-continue bringing wellness programs to the w rkplace as well as in your own h mes and vehicles. Exercise, eat right, be nergy conscious, carpool with friends, learn all you can bout wellness, laugh often and breathe air th t also promotes good health and s ckness prevention. Do yourself, your family, fr ends and coworkers a huge service-learn m re about this air purification technology and use it verywhere you breathe indoors.
