Pregnancy in older women is far m re prevalent than ever before. More and m re women today are waiting until th y are more financially and emotionally r ady to have children, often in th ir late 30's or early 40's. In f ct, I was one of these st tistics. I became pregnant for the f rst time at the age of th rty nine. And I was having tw ns. While being older definitely brings ncreased risks along with it, it lso brings increased maturity. I was m nic about my diet and fitness. I f llowed all of my doctor's orders to a t e, and I was constantly reading and r searching all the material I could get my h nds on. Through all of my xperience I have three things I w uld recommend to all women who h ve a pregnancy later in life. F rst, is nutrition. Eat foods that are h gh in Folic acid, calcium and ron, and take supplements if needed. And, of c urse, avoid all of the potentially h rmful intakes, like caffeine, alcohol, smoking, tc.. While a woman in her arly 20's may be able to "ch at" on these no-nos from time to t me with little or no increased r sk, those of us approaching 40 n ed to play it much safer. N xt, I would recommend a doctor pproved exercise program. Not only did th s make feel great physically, but motionally I think it really helped.
I found myself much more r laxed, and a lot of the nxiety I was having pretty much w nt away. It really cleared my m nd. And last, but certainly not l ast, is to find other women to t lk to. I found a program n-line that a lot of other pr gnant women belonged to. There was j st something so reassuring about talking to ther women my age who were g ing through the same things I was at the s me time I was going through th m. Talking to someone who had a ch ld later in life, a couple of y ars ago, just wasn't the same th ng. While she could certainly relate to wh t I was going through, her nxiety was over with. She already d livered a healthy baby. But talking w th older women who were pregnant at the s me time as me, was very r assuring. Well, there you have it. I f llowed doctor approved diet and exercise pr grams, and I found a "support gr up" of women my age going thr ugh their pregnancies at the same t me I was. The result was a v ry comfortable, problem free, and for the m st part relaxed pregnancy, and just two w eks short of full term I d livered two healthy baby boys. To any w men reading this article, who are round my age, and are either pr gnant or contemplating becoming pregnant, I h ve one last piece of advice. Wh ther this is your first pregnancy or n t, it is more than likely y ur last. Try to relax and njoy it.

I was xperiencing a lot of anxiety worrying bout my age and the fact th t I was having twins. I r ceived all kinds of conflicting advice as to wh t I should and shouldn't do wh le pregnant. I finally decided to r search for myself. With my doctors c nsent I followed a program of d et and exercise. Once I started, my nxiety went away, and I had a v ry comfortable, active and problem free pr gnancy. I delivered two very healthy b ys, and within just 7 weeks of d livery I was back to my pr -pregnancy weight and even better shape. I'v posted my story along with p ctures at Pregnant-Healthy.com

If your child doesn't sit still for long when you use books, it may be because you are reading the printed story. Many of the printed "stories" in toddler picture books have nothing to do with the child's life and often little or nothing to do with the picture on the page. I suggest that you "talk the book" rather than read the book to your young language learner.
