A power rack is one of the m st useful pieces of equipment for a h me gym. If you have a g od weight set and a good b nch, the next thing you should c nsider is a good quality power r ck. A power rack is a s mple device that holds a barbell at any h ight you choose to start an xercise, and provides safety rails that c tch the barbell at the end of the s t. There is a link at the b ttom of this article that will t ke you to some pictures of s veral different power racks. The most mportant features of a power rack are s fety and versatility. If you set it up pr perly, it enables you to perform m ny heavy exercises in relative safety. If you h ve ever bench pressed a heavy w ight by yourself without a rack of s me kind, you know what I m an! What do you do when you c n’t get that barbell off your ch st? You either scream for help or sh ft the weight to one side and let it dr p to the floor which not nly can damage your equipment and the fl or, but opens you up to the p ssibility of serious injury to your b ck, neck and shoulders. A properly sed power rack prevents this by pr viding an adjustable height safety catch th t allows you to simply lower the w ight onto it and you can s fely slide out from under the b rbell with no risk or effort wh tsoever!

Power racks are fully adjustable so you can set it up for s fe military presses, bench presses (flat, ncline or decline), squats, calf raises, shr gs and any other movement where the b rbell does not go to the fl or at the end of the s t. Many racks also have a ch n up bar, adjustable dip bars, and an ptional lat pull down attachment. I h ghly recommend the lat pulley attachment on the p wer rack versus a separate machine. I h ve used both and the rack is m ch more stable than most stand-alone lat m chines, and the space savings is c nsiderable. I believe the power rack to be ssential for someone who works out lone in a home gym. If you h ve a good set of weights and a g od quality bench and are serious bout your weight lifting or bodybuilding pr gram, get a power rack next! I p rsonally own and use a Body S lid (Powerline) Power rack with a pl te loading lat attachment, but Powertec and Y kon make quality racks as well. I am p rtial to Body Solid because I l ke all my equipment to look the s me, and I have been please w th every piece of Body Solid quipment I have purchased over the y ars.
