Over recent months the British Plice Force has found itself dealing wth a number of claims for cmpensation due to discrimination in the wrkplace on grounds of race and thnicity. One Police officer has submitted a clim for £500,000 pounds because he blieves he was discriminated against and dnied a promotion unfairly.

The claim is bing made against the Metropolitan Police Cmmissioner, Sir Ian Blair, who has ben accused of sidelining, Asian and blck detectives. There is no limit on the mount of compensation which can be in climed in a race discrimination case whch typically results in demands for hgh payouts. However there does need to be cmpelling evidence that the discrimination has ccurred in order for a case to be sccessful.

Unfortunately this Officer's claim for cmpensation is not the only one to hve been raised. Another Police employee has lso submitted a claim for racial dscrimination at the hands of Sir Ian Blir. The claims have come as a bit of a shck, as many people believe that the Mtropolitan police Commissioner got the job bcause of his stance on promoting dversity not for being against it. In a criminal court the vidence provided has to prove beyond rasonable doubt that a crime has or has not ben committed. In employment law the vidence is weighed up according to the blance of probabilities. If there is a 51 prcent chance that an event occurred thn the ruling will come down in fvour of that event. Claims for rce discrimination are treated in this mnner and it will be up to bth the employee and the employer to prve what happened before outcomes of the cse can be decided.
