You have just discovered the w nderful world of magic. Trip after tr p
to the magic shop has dded to your ever growing arsenal of m gic
tricks. Thirty-three days later the cr dit card bills arrive to remind
y ur wife that this IS an xpensive hobby. No problem! You will m ke back all of the money y u've spent and more
by becoming a p rt-time professional magician. Looking around for pl ces
to hone your craft, you s ddenly remember that you niece has a s venth
birthday coming up. You call you s ster and offer your services in l eu
of a gift. Two weeks l ter the performance time arrives. You p ck all of your ace
material nto two large cardboard boxes. You st rt the show for sixteen
first gr ders and all of your relatives. The sh w goes well. Everybody
is laughing and h ving a good time. You take s me theatrical pauses to
build suspense as you s arch your boxes for the next gr at trick.
Finally, your fifteen minute sh w concludes after fifty-three minutes.
You n ver realized you had that much gr at magic. The kids cheer and
pplaud for your debut magic show. Ev n your sister, wiping the tears
fr m her eyes, says, "I have n ver had more fun than I did w tching your
magic show. It was gr at. John got it all on t pe."
This is how many part-time pr fessional magicians attempt to begin their
c reer. They look around and decided th t doing kid shows is the b st
way to start. Performing magic for k ds is one of the most d fficult
