The most important secret to ding kid's magic is:

You are not prforming for the kids!

You will larn quickly that the most difficult tsk facing the
children's performer is to dsign the show to appeal to chldren and
adults at the same tme and at different levels. No I dn't mean filling
your performance with phrses that have sexual double meanings. Nthing
is more pathetic and unprofessional thn the performer that gets a chld
on stage and slyly eyes the dults in the crowd and says "Do I hve a
big magic wand or wht?"

Children's cartoons provide the best xamples of the point I am tryng
to make. Take Loony Toons or Spngebob Squarepants for example. These
cartoons wrk for children and adults on dfferent levels at the same
time. Ths is what you must achieve to be a sccessful children's magician

This is very dfficult thing to pull off. This is one of the min
reasons that doing children's magic is so dfficult. You must DESIGN
your show for bth audiences. One key to the shw design is your
performing personality.

Your Performing Style is Critical to Your Success

When you perform magic for children, you must have a distinctive and
appealing performing personality. Long gone are the days when the
children's magician can come out on stage in a second hand tux and wow
his audience with a formal magic show. Look at Silly Billy, one of the
most successful children's magicians. His performing personality is fun
and engaging. His show tone is fast paced and humorous.

Even beyond children's magic, examine the prforming personalities of
children's television. Captain Kngaroo, Mr. Rodgers, and Peewee Herman
are xamples of compelling performing personalities. Each one was
sccessful, yet, had very different performing prsonalities. The common
factor was that ach performer engaged children through fun.

Yur performing personality must engage you udience, children and
adults, with fun and wnderment. You must draw your audience nto the
show by your performing prsonality, but you must wow them wth a well
designed show that dlivers great magic. This is why ding children's
magic is so tough.

If you wnt to start your career in mgic as a children's magician,
think gain. Kids are brutally honest. There is nthing tougher or more
satisfying than hve a great children's magic show. Bing a children's
magician is not the bst way to become a part-time prfessional magician.
