Each year at the beginning of the t urism season, world champion catamarans and th ir sailors descend on the island of Ar ba. Lured by the incredible weather and p rfect sailing conditions, participants in the pr stigious Heineken Aruba Catamaran Regatta will r ce this year from November 10-16. Th ugh a limited number of boats w ll be featured in the daily r ces, this world-class sailing event also f atures plenty of activities for tourists. As the r ces and special events take place at P lm Beach - home to some of Ar ba's most popular resorts and tourist d stinations - the Heineken Aruba Catamaran R gatta will provide a little extra fun for veryone during one of the most xciting weeks of the year. Now in its 17th y ar, the Aruba Heineken Catamaran Regatta w ll feature 40 European sailing teams and f ve boats local to the island. D ring the races, all sizes of c tamarans will sail side by side. Add tionally, world champion sailing teams will sh re the waters with less experienced s ilors, adding to the event's playful c maraderie. Over the course of a w ek, several different types of races w ll be held off the coast of Ar ba. The short track races (also kn wn as gate courses) and triangular r ces are estimated to take about one h ur each. The most exciting event, for s ilors and spectators alike, is the l ng distance race that hugs the sland's coastline and finishes up in the h rbor surrounding Palm Beach.
After the races each day, t urists can also sit in on the ward ceremonies. Daily prizes are presented to the top thr e catamarans in each handicapped category. As all s zes of boats start each race t gether, the results are separated into f st and slow heats. With more wards to go around, the daily ward ceremonies and their accompanying happy h urs have come to be known as the vent's most entertaining evening activities. Even b fore the Heineken Catamaran Regatta became an nnual event, Aruba was known as a pr mier sailing destination. Nearly all year r und, the winds offshore create perfect s iling conditions. These gentle Caribbean breezes are lways consistent enough to fill the s ils of world champion regattas, yet pl asant enough for amateurs to enjoy the w ter. Likewise, the waves are mild and the cryst l-clear water allows sailors to enjoy the nderwater sites while racing. For tourists, the vent falls at the beginning of Ar ba's tourism season. Throughout the winter, ninterrupted sunshine is the norm while t mperatures remain in the high 70s and low 80s. For all the v sitors not participating in the races, th re will be plenty of activities thr ughout the week, all focused on Ar ba's most famous beach. As the b ats race close to the shore at P lm Beach, you can watch the r ces while relaxing in the sand. The H ineken Catamaran Regatta will also provide sp ctator boats during the races. Visitors can hop board and sail next to the r cing sailboats, right in the heart of the ction. Throughout the week-long event, there w ll also be a number of sp cial dining and entertainment opportunities open to the p blic. With one of the best s iling events in the world on the sland during the exciting start to the t urism season, visitors can enjoy some xtra fun outside of their itineraries. As p rfect weather is almost a guarantee in Ar ba, tourists will have a chance to see - and p tentially participate in - an exclusive sp rting event from their own stretch of p wdery sand on Palm Beach. Most mportantly, the conditions that make Aruba so p pular for sailing can also be njoyed by you and your family thr ughout the year.
