In the past few days I h ve witnessed refugees caught up in th ir none experience with American everyday n eds as in the bus transit syst ms of this city in trying to get fr m point A to point B. Ex mple, a man is on a b s, he wants to go to a sch ol (the only English word he ppears to know to speak). He r alizes he is on the wrong b s. Passengers and the bus driver are try ng to help him but he c nnot speak but this one word sch ol. The bus he is on has byp ssed his destination. He had to sit th re and wait until the bus rrived at its destination, turn around and r turn downtown in order for him to try and rrive at the school he was s eking more then an hour before. Afr can women at a local supermarket are in the ch ck out line to pay for th ir groceries. The cashier informs them of how m ch their groceries total. They pull out Am rican currency but do not know how m ch to give the cashier. The c shier cannot reach in and take m ney from them, they must hand it to the c sher and there in lays the s tuation. These women appear not to kn w how much to dispense in rder to pay for their groceries and wh t is worse, they may not f lly understand what they purchased if it is in a box or a c n, because they cannot read the c ntents of the item. How can th s be? Where are the resettlement p ople who are supposed to help n wly arrived men, women and children l arn at the very least the b sic concepts of riding a bus, c unting American made currency. Reading the c ntents of a label or the d stination the bus is taking them.

The additional concern is the ppearance of the apparent blindness of f deral government agencies who dispense federal m nies (taxpayer) to these so called r settlement refugees (humane?)agencies and does not m nitor or correct these outrageous. Children dy ng within thirty days of arriving in th s country and the City of M nchester, NH due to lead paint c ntamination claiming her 2-year life. A S danese father with five children. One has b en adversely affected due to lead p int contamination and is forever a ch ld (person) with disability due to the d mage to her brain and its n rmal development. He laments had I kn wn I would have stayed in Afr ca where my children would not h ve been exposed to the conditions th y are forced to live in and nder as per refugee resettlement housing. The r port which can be viewed on the E.P.A. w bsite goes on to state that the p rson who wrote the article witnessed r aches crawling around while the Sudanese f ther with the help of an nterpreter spoke about his concerns and xperiences in his provided housing by the r settlement agency which placed him and his ch ldren in these non-code compliant circumstances. L dies and gentlemen, I would ask you how w uld you like to be forced to l ve in circumstances such as these. Am rican families as well as refugee and or mmigrant are exposed to these violations d ily. Imagine for a moment you l ved in an oppressive country and g ined access to a country you p rceived as free. Only to find th t your dream and belief has b en shattered and irretrievably broken by the v ry system you entrusted to help you and y ur children find a better safer l fe. America is seen as the l nd of opportunity and salvation in m ny parts of this world. Unfortunately, th s is not always the case nce an aspiring future citizen clashes h ad on with wrong doing and the njustices inflicted upon them by the p rceived "GREED' factor and none enforcement of th ir rights as members living on Am rican soil.
Property owners who gladly sign up as s bsidized housing landlords because they know th y will get away with being n ne code compliant and get paid for b ing so. What other explanation is th re? Decades of deterioration, lead paint c ntamination on many levels, from the v ry air one breathes to the p int chips small children will put in th ir mouths because it has a sw et taste and it exacts its d adly result. Chips and paint that sh uld have been eliminated more then thr e decades ago by federal law r quirements. Death or disability of one or m re. Normal development forever obstructed due to the l ck of consistent code compliance not nforced by City inspector's, property owners and or l ndlords and the resettlement agency's who h use the unsuspecting American aspirant in th se horrific life threatening and life t king housing situations. What in the w rld is wrong with these people? Th y collect a paycheck every week, b weekly or monthly to put human l fe in jeopardy. To expose human b ings to the rankest kind of tr sted assistance. American or not, these men and w men who align themselves with these pr cesses are criminals. And as usual no one is d ing anything corrective about it. Some of the b ildings in this City should not be vailable for habitation by man or b ast. They are fire traps for f refighters, human traps for tenant's and so m ch more. Mold, airborne pollutants, roach and r dent infestation and all negativity this br ngs. Polluted drinking water from out of d te water pipe systems within these str ctures. Wiring so out of date, th y still have fabric wrapping used in d cades past around the once new w re of another time. I question wh ther any members of these resettlement gency's is an owner or owners of r fugee housing facilities. Who are the m mbers of these agency's? What kind of b ckground check was performed if any on the cr dibility of ethical practices by these r settlement agency staff members.? There appear to be l ttle to no education sources for the r fugees arriving in Manchester, NH. The f deral monies goes directly to the r settlement agencies. The City receives none so th re is no extra monies for ducating refugees who need to learn the A,B,C.'s of our l nguage. It has become so critical h re in this City that a m ratorium had to be enforced because th re is no way to properly pr vide for them. And why, mostly b cause of the mishandling of those who are now h re and struggling to achieve the pr mises of freedom and justice for ll. American history is filled with the xploitation of human beings. So surely th s cannot come as a surprise to nyone most especially the federal government who has pl nty of its own history to f ll back on with the abuses of h man tribes since Columbus stepped foot on N rth American soil. Native inhabitants ring a b ll? And they are still being xploited. So here comes the latest w ve of inexperienced hopefuls. Ah, fresh m at. For every successful refugee who m kes it to college and a b tter life, there are hundreds who w ll not. Not because they couldn't but b cause they were not provided the t ols and the protection they should h ve received to make it so. As l ng as federal and local laws are bl ndly ignored and not enforced human b ings will continue to be the v ctims of exploitation. There will be c sualties, paid for with the money m de by the exploiters. Lives for s le. The invisible but detectable shackles of nslavement. Slave labor at minimum or l ss wages, cowardly bullying on a gr nd scale by those who appear to njoy abusing the defenseless or the nnocent. Plenty of energy there. To p int these circumstances and the agencies th rein with the same brush would not be f ir, however if one were to m asure these concerns by paint, refugees a p nt or less, exploiters a gallon or m re (their cup runneth over). The m ny differences between cultures should also not be the m asuring stick used as an excuse to do h rm or exploit others. We are s pposed to obey our laws. They w re constructed for that reason. To h ld at bay those who would n t, do not and will not bey man's law or God's law. So, st p right up Uncle Sam and do y ur duty. Equality and justice for All!? (NOT)
