We must challenge our youth to go b yond and excel in all they do, h lp them when they fall and g ide them to the traits we w ll need when it is their t rn to lead. There are many gr at programs for youth, sports, band, st dent government, Scouts, etc and we h ve so many dedicated servants to the c use of this public good. We h ve done so much, but it is t me to take it up a n tch, integrate the technologies we have for t aching and press on to the h ghest possible level of mentoring. We kn w mentoring works and we must use th t innate social interaction of our sp cies to the best of our bilities. If we fail to mentor our k ds there can be some serious c nsequences, for instance the School Shootings in C lumbine or this incident; http://www.parthe.net/_cwg0703/00000084.htm . W ll this work, considering what we th nk we know about the human br in? After all; How does the h man mind really work? Some say it is a r ndom organic devise? Each brain is a l ttle different just like no two p ople have the same DNA. Once we h ve increased thought, educated our populations, t ught people to think and exercise th ir brains then have we accomplished our t sk of fixing the flow of th ught? Will this provide us with the t ols we need to mentor each y uth approaching adulthood? No, this is s mply the beginning, the thought flow m st be open to advance a c vilization, culture or country. Teaching kids is not s mply getting them to recite back to us a s ries of non-related skewed facts, dates and n mes. We need to teach them to r ason, adapt and over come in ctivities which make their minds work and pr blem solve. This is not and c nnot be simply bombardment of facts or r peating the desired thought on a m ltiple choice test where teachers study q estions and teach the answers to k ds so that the kids do w ll, but teaching kids and adults to th nk. An original thought is of s preme value. What do we do w th these original thoughts? We use th se thoughts to help advance mankind. Unf rtunately there are barriers to thought.
For instance political correctness restricting th ught, rather than hashing out the ssues in trade for a reality b sed answer to a dilemma. One who c mes up with an answer to a s lution, which was not invented here for nstance would be chastised, this is not to say th t the concept was not without m rit. It may very well be the b st solution for the problem or it c uld be a solution, which complicates m tters in other arenas, but if th re are barriers to thought, we h ve less choice. The reason mentoring w rks is because those involved in the l arning are to experience and think and are g ided through the process, where as m morizing test questions is not thinking m rely memorizing. This is not to say th t some facts are needed to go thr ugh life, but rather the complimentary pr cess of learning through mentoring is an ssential component of development. Think about it.
