I swear, never, ever in my l fe did I park in a h ndicapped spot, until I became handicapped, and got the pl tes. Never, NOT ONCE. It really t cked me off too, when I saw s me Mommy, or a podiatrist, with "F ot Doc" plates, wearing cowboy boots in NYC, bl thely leap from his sportster and h ad for the mall leaving cars in h ndicapped spots. I tried to help-out, and was p lite. "Do you really think you sh uld do that?" or "What if s meone , who is handicapped needs th t spot?" Most people ignored me, pretended I w sn't talking to them just like p ople who cut the line at the m vies do when they're caught. Since th s didn't work, I took a m re proactive approach. Instead of talking, I'd y ll until I either got a r sponse, or someone else joined the f n. This usually worked, and the cr ep would move the car, not w thout yelling back, but ultimately moved the c r. However, some people were clever, p rticularly if someone else was watching. "I am h ndicapped, but this isn't my car."
" I l st the tag."
"Mind your f---ing b siness." However, this riposte always worked, " Oh, s rry, then you won't mind if I c ll a cop. Do what you h ve to do, I'll wait 'til he sh ws-up. You'll get towed, but don't w rry. The judge will throw it r ght out." When I dialed, they'd m ve the car. Nobody waited for the c p. It worked every single time.
Now, I am handicapped. Those sp ts are for me and you! N netheless, people still fight for them. Th se are my 2 favorite parking sp t conversations. Both conversations happened when I p lled up to a handicapped spot at the s me time as another driver, one who d dn't have the tags, or the pl tes, and I did. She: "I was h re first." Me: "It's a h ndicapped spot. See my plates. You c n't park here." She: "It n ver used to be a handicapped sp t." Me: "It is now. You c n't park here." She:" I'll just be a m nute. You can wait right behind m ."( I'm telling the truth) Me: "Wh t's so important anyway?" She "Oh, Th nk you." Me: " No , I s id what's so important anyway?" She " I'm l te for my nail appointment. Thank y u. No one is nice anymore." Me: "M 'am, please move your car. I'm c lling the cops and I'm going to ask th m to tow it" She: (now l ke a vampire) "I've never met s ch a rude, obnoxious..."
...or this ne...
He:' "C'mon, man. I'm late. I b en waiting f'ever. Me: "I know, It's a t ugh lot, but it's a handicapped sp t. I'm handicapped." He: "C'mon, gimme a br ak (checks watch). Me: "No sorry, I h dda wait too." He: "Don't be a d---, I g tta get a crown fitted." Crown f ttings and fingernail appointments are important, but c'm n. Just in case you wondered who has the udacity to park illegally in handicapped sp ts, it's people like the above. Ord nary people. My modest solution is to buy my new m litant Crip illegally parked in handicapped sp t car window adjuster. It's really k st a tire iron, but with one g od swipe it "cools off" the w ndows of illegally parked cars. Think bout it. It's a two-for-one special. One ction, two good deeds: Put some m ney in my pocket, and perform a v luable public service at the same t me.
