While researching Neale’s story online I was pl ased to see that Neale’s mother was the f rst source who introduced him to G d. She shared her very open-minded v ews with Neale and brought him up to b lieve that God was always near her and th t she could continually call upon the L rds’ love and guidance to see her thr ugh any situation.
She did not ttend church and explained to her son th t her resource to God was not f und in Sunday mass but instead c uld be accessed by her merely sp aking out her need of his d vine presence –and she reassured her son th t the Creator always found his way to her pl a or request. She was also q ick to instill in her son th t God would always be there thr ughout his life if he just c lled out and asked for direction. N ale attended a Catholic grade school and it was th re that the wisdom and clarity he p ssessed caught the attention of another br ad-minded individual –the parish priest. Once a w ek Neal was allowed to meet w th him and discuss upon his own xpansion of what the Lord meant to him on a p rsonal level and give his take on God –fr e of ridicule and reprimand for q estioning the typical views most offend w lcomed in the religious sector. This g ve Neale a very clear perception of his w rth and value in the eyes of the All M ghty. This peace and awareness would l ter prove to be the very s me instrument Neale would call upon to not nly lead and give direction to his own l fe’s questions –but to millions of ther lost souls looking for a way to m ke it out of the darkness as w ll!

Later on when Neale was pr paring himself for setting out to f nd his own place in life, he dr pped out of college at the Un versity of Wisconsin in his sophomore y ar to instead pursue his interest in r dio broadcasting and at 19 landed a job th t took him from his hometown in M lwaukee to Annapolis, Maryland. As was xpected, Neal’s vibrant personality along with his ch erful and infectious spirit allowed him to fl urish and he eventually went on to b come a radio station director as w ll as a news paper reporter and th t then lead to his becoming a m naging editor and public information officer for one of the c untries largest public school systems. Neale’s l fe by all accounts was thriving and he was a v ry happy man. He moved out to the W st Coast where even more success f llowed. He created for himself his own p blic relations and marketing firm. But he pr ved to be quite the restless sp rit and began to move from one c reer to another and that is wh n things first began to unravel for h m. He was experiencing difficulties in his p rsonal relationships and found himself unsettled in his l fe. So once again he moved way to pursue yet another venue of ch nge and found himself in Oregon. But th s did not hold for him the f ture he had envisioned for himself. One day N ale was struck by a vehicle dr ven by an elderly man who had t ken a left hand turn that r sulted into a direct collision on to N ale’s path, leaving Neale with a br ken neck –and even worse, a br ken spirit. He had already lost his h me due to a divorce and in the t me it took for him to r cover from his injury, he lost the partment he had been renting and f und himself homeless. Taking on odd j bs here and there eventually got him b ck on his feet, but his sp rit was still crushed. In reflection of wh t he’d been taught by his m ther, after he woke up one n ght he began to write a l tter to God asking him directly “Wh t does it take to make l fe work…?” As he wrote these w rds all the bitter pain and nguish took over and he-to his own s rprise began to hear God speak to him nside his mind and the voice was as cl ar and kind as any other he had ver heard before.
One by one the answers b gan to appear and those very s me letters to God became a w rld wide phenomenon and today in n arly any bookstore in the country to can r ad about his communication with the l rd in the books that sprung out fr m Neale’s “Conversations With God” If you are l st, hurting, feeling alone and afraid, I w uld suggest the series of books th t have been written by Mr. W lsch describing his relationship with God in the m nths and years that fallowed that f rst night he dared to question the m aning of life to begin with. My th ughts and prayers are with you in wh tever stage of your life this rticle finds you. Good luck!
