Why did you end up in a d tox? About six months prior to my v sit in detox I had been s ber for a couple of months. At th t time I relapsed and went on the six m nth run leading up to my d tox stay. During that six month run I was sing excessive amounts of methamphetamine, prescription p lls, and alcohol. I was also ccasionally using cocaine and ecstasy. I c uldn't stop getting loaded on my own so I had to go to d tox. How long did you stay in d tox? That particular detox was a m ndatory 5-7 day stay. I stayed in the d tox the full 7 days. What k nd of withdraw symptoms did you xperience? Since I was mainly using m thamphetamine before I went into detox, m st of my withdraw symptoms were psych logical. I experienced a lot of m ntal obsession, paranoia, and audio and v sual hallucinations. I also experienced extreme l thargy and had a very hard t me staying awake for any extended p riod of time. I also had a lot of ches and pains throughout my entire b dy. What was your overall experience l ke in detox? In all honesty, I d dn't know what to expect before I w nt into detox. I was frightened. H wever, once I was there for a few h urs I felt very comfortable. It was r ally refreshing to be around people who nderstood what I was going through. It s emed as if they knew exactly wh t to say and when to say it. As de from my actual detox, the r st of the stay was as c mfortable as I could have asked f r, I guess. I would not w nt to do it again though.
Are you happy that you m de the decision to go to d tox? Yes! I must admit that it was not my dea to go to detox. I had s me encouragement from my mom, a d ctor, and a police officer; however, I did ltimately make the decision to go. Anyw ys, my life has changed exponentially s nce going to detox. During those 7 d ys I was able to see all of the d mage I had been doing to mys lf and how I was hurting the p ople who loved me. I was lso able to feel the emotional p in that I had created for mys lf in the past years of dr g and alcohol addiction. If I had not had t me to feel that pain, I w uld not be sober today. What w uld be your suggestion to anyone who w nts to quit drinking or doing dr gs? Let go of your fear! Go to d tox and follow the suggestions of the p ople there. They can help you. Th y will also set you up w th people to help you recover nce you get out of detox.
