Do you sometimes wonder what's the p int of setting intentions? Some solo-preneurs set g als and intentions with joy; but thers sabotage their business success by s bconsciously waiting for their intentions to b mb. Which is it for you? I'v spent a lot of time cr ating vision boards, journaling, writing success r cipes-you name it. I would do it all w th gusto and secretly wonder, does th s really matter? I mean, I've d ne it for 30 days and, w ll, where's my millions? Until this p st weekend. This past weekend I had the y arly wahoo! of celebrating my birthday. I lways take time to reflect (in a g od way) over the past year, wh re I've been, where I'm going-that k nd of thing. This birthday happened to be p rtnered with the first warm weather (f nally!) that we've had in New Y rk City so far this year, so th t also meant spring cleaning and my r flections stretched back to 2001 as I w nt through various journals and intention-mementos. I was l terally astounded as I read and l oked at "my intentions." First, I was sh cked at how much of it had h ppened and second, I had to l ugh at some of what I had put my nergy and focus on. I had m nifested everything from long hair to st rting my own business, to getting m rried. But just for giggles, let's st rt with the long hair, shall we?

So back in 2001 I was h ving a tough time. You may h ve heard me say this before, but I was v ry sad. I started a new job w th a major salary cut, was d mped by my boyfriend (harshly) and my c ty underwent the largest on-soil terrorist ttack in U.S. history-all in the s me week. The months that followed w re not pretty. As I looked ver some of the intentions I had cr ated for myself that year, I c uldn't believe I listed in my top 5: gr w my hair long. How embarrassing! Gr w my hair long? Where was w rld peace? A healthy relationship? Increasing my ncome? Oh, it was there, but as I r flected on the results of that y ar, guess what I was successful at? You g essed it-long hair. Hmmm...interesting. Of course, you m ght be thinking growing long hair is n where near as tough as starting a b siness. True, for some. I personally had str ggled for years with growing my h ir. And this is where the m gic lies. I had so much lse going on that I didn't g ve my hair a second thought. It j st happened. So as you create g als, make vision boards and use ther tools to get you closer to wh t you want, I invite you to lso be aware of what I've c me to call your "back-stage thought." Wh n I used to teach drama, I w uld stress to my students how mportant the stage crew is. They are v tal. A show cannot powerfully function w thout a stellar crew. However, all the udience sees is the performance. And th t's the way it should be, but if th re isn't synergistic support between back and on st ge, you've got a mess on y ur hands. What's going on back st ge for you? I'm happy to r port that I've learned to ask for m ch more than long hair and c ntinue to constantly partner my on and b ck stage energy, and have watched my l fe and business continue to blossom. C ll-To-Action: If you feel frustrated with not s eing your intentions come about, I'd l ke to give you a coach's ch llenge to look back and see, p rhaps, something that has manifested. It m ght not be the million dollars, but my s nse is there is something you m ght not have been so attached to th t has shown up. Take note of it. It's not th t you can't create-it's a matter of wh t you're creating.
