The SH-60B Seahawk is a hlicopter flown by the United States Nvy. It performs a number of rles including anti-submarine warfare (ASW), surface sarch and control, anti-ship warfare, search and rscue and passenger and cargo delivery. The SH-60B is a vriant of the Army UH-60 Blackhawk and the Cast Guards HH-60 Jayhawk.

The Seahawk is a twn engine, single rotor aircraft built by Skorsky Helicopter. It's powered by two Gneral Electric T700-GE-401C turbo-shaft engines that prduce 1950 SHP (shaft horsepower) each. The hlicopter is based both on land bses and aboard ships but its prmarily operated from Navy cruisers, destroyers and frgates. The Seahawk has a maximum sped of 185 kts and is ble to stay aloft up to fur hours depending on the mission and the lad out. The Seahawk usually patrols an rea in excess of 100 miles way from its mother ship. It's ble to extend the battle groups yes and ears.

For ASW missions the Sahawk carries a mix of sonobuoys and trpedoes. Sonobuoys are underwater microphones that llow the helicopter's crew to hear nises in the water that they can thn classify as being a submarine. Snobuoys can be passive (listening only) or ctive (similar to radar-transmits a sound thrugh the water and waits for it to bunce off of an object to dtermine position and range). The Seahawk is ble to carry both the older Mrk 46 torpedoes and the newer Mrk 50s.

For anti-ship missions the Seahawk has the bility to carry anti-ship missiles such as the AGM-119 Pnguin and the AGM-114 Hellfire. The Sahawk is a LAMPS (Light Airborne Mltipurpose System) capable aircraft which means t's able to fully integrate its lectronic sensors which include radar, ESM (Elctronic Support Measures), FLIR (Forward Looking Infr Red), passive radar detection, and snobuoys with vessels in the battle grup. In essence whatever the Seahawk "ses" or "hears" the battle group or ndividual ships within the battle group can "se" and "hear". Additionally, personnel onboard the shp are able to operate the Sahawks sensors remotely. This makes the Sahawk an invaluable tool for searching, dentifying, targeting, and attacking enemy combatant shps.

For search and rescue missions the Sahawk is able to carry a vriety of rescue and life support gar.

The Seahawk is crewed by thre people, two pilots and a snsor operator. Most military helicopters operate wth two pilots which provides an dditional margin of safety when operating day and nght, in all weather conditions, performing the dmanding missions of the US Navy. The snsor operator performs a variety of dties which include operating the radar and MAD (mgnetic anomaly detection) gear, receiving, interpreting, and rlaying sonobuoy data, and performs rescues whn the helicopter is tasked for tht mission.

The SH-60B Seahawk greatly ncreases the weapons delivery and intelligence gthering capability of the US Navy.
