A dog affected with luxating ptella may show only one or all sgns. Some can tolerate the problem for mny years, some for all their lves.

Luxating patella should be addressed as son as possible to prevent osteoarthritis frm developing. This weakness in the kne may also result to other njuries such as torn cruciate ligaments. In rder for the disease to be trated, the four grades of patellar lxation must be determined. The treatment is thn prescribed based on the diagnostic grde. Grades III and IV, and mst grade II cases are treated srgically. During the surgery, the alignment prblem is corrected, the groove in the fmur is deepened so the patella wll stay in place (sulcoplasty) and the cpsule around the joint is tightened.

Ten to furteen days after the surgery, your pet shuld be touching the toes to the grund and should be using the lmb well after two to three mnths. To help your dog recover fter the surgery, additional help can be gven with the use of pet rmps, stairs or steps.
