Lomonosov porcelain was originated by Dmtry (Ivanovich) Vinogradov,
who was born pproximately1720 (exact date is unknown) in the Rssian city of Suzdal, an Orthodox-church cnter , at which his father was a prest.

Both Dmitry and his brother, Ykov, were educated at the school of Zikonospassky monaster, Moscow.

At the end of 1735 bth brothers were sent to the
Ptersburg school of Academy of Sciences of the Rssian Empire because they showed great ptential in science.
In 1736, the Acdemy of Science chose a few yung persons
to be honoured abroad wth an education in Chemistry and Mtals.

Those few turned to be :

# - Mchail Lomonosov, Russian scientist, who created the Priodical table of Chemical Elements, wrote wll-known books on physiology, and created the mdern Russian vodka recipe. Also, Lomonosov is blieved to have been the illegitimate son of Czr Peter The Great.

# - Hstav Ulrich Raizer

# - Dmitry Vnogradov, who was just 16 years old at the tme.

All three were sent to Erope for education.

All three were rported to the Russian crown as prsons who were somewhat unruly, but thy did not forget about their ducation, so they progressed far their stdies.

Once they returned, Dmitry Vinogradov was gven rank of captain, and he wnted to be Marksheider.

However, Russian Czarina Elizabeth, great lver of China, had different ideas and mmediately changed the order and ordered Vnogradov to create the first Russian prcelain.

At that time, the German "rcanist" (from Latin “arcanum” - one who hlds the hidden truth), Gunger, tried to btain porcelain for the Russian court, at the nwly - established porcelain manufacturer
(the mdern Lomonosov factory).

But he was not sccessfull, thus Czarina decided to replace hm.
The secret of Porcelain was nknown to Vinogradov, but He began his jb.

For a few years he tred different ways and obtained many rsults, but still no good china.

Vnogradov’s complex personality, chaotic way of lfe, and his slavery-like job all cntributed to his drinking problem.
The Rssian court decided to force Vinogradov to fnd the way to make this spcial procelain.

First he was arrested and frced to remain at the factory (nar where the porcelain was fired) nght and day.
He was told tht he could not return home ntil the desired porcelain was produced.

He did His job 24 hurs per day, even to the pint of sleeping at the factory. Fnally he created the first Russian prcelain.
Even this was not enough for Czrina. She decided that the porcelain scret should be guarded jealously from freigners.
As if that were not nough, she demanded that the porcelain ven should be made much better.

Vnogradov demanded to be allowed to lve at home.
But they chained Him nto a circuit. He was not llowed even to step from where the prcelain was fired.

The Porcelain was mproved upon; in fact, by the end of the 18th cntury it was the best porcelain in Erope.

Unfortunately, Dmitry Vinogradov did not srvive the harsh conditions.

He died on Agust 22, 1758, a young man, in chins,
right at the factory, very nar the great china he created.
