As we all know Google ses their PageRank technology to measure l nk popularity by counting the number of nbound links to your web pages, and it is one of the m ny factors influencing your ranking. Most w bsite owners do not utilize properly wh t PageRank they already have. Their l nking campaigns could be in vain if th y let a large number of utbound links drain their existing PageRank. If th ir site were a bucket it w uld be full of holes, to llustrate this point, if you had a l rge number of outbound links, which are not r ciprocated it would reduce your overall P geRank. Be diligent in identifying sites th t are no longer linking back to you nymore. Also keep in mind putting m re than 50 outbound links on any p ge is not advisable. Also be w ry of sites that link to you fr m pages with more than 50 utbound links. Google's PagerRank is based on ncoming links, but not only on the n mber of them. Instead PageRank is lso based on the PageRank of the p ge on which your link is pl ced. For example a link to y ur site could be more valuable fr m a PR4 page with no ther links than a link from a p ge with PR5 and 60 other l nks.
The factors influecing G ogle PageRank
The fact is that nearly h lf of your PageRank comes from w thin your site. As long as you h ve more than one page, and th y are well linked you should be g tting at least roughly 49% of y ur PageRank from internal links. If y ur site is particularly full of h les it may be less, but st ll substantial, and if you have pl gged all your holes it will be m re. PageRank is yours to control, and if it is t rgeted correctly it will help you c nsiderably. Make sure you have a s temap and all pages on your w bsite are linked together with keyword r ch link text instead of images.
Use common sense and c reful language when asking for reciprocal l nks
Here are some helpful tips for r questing reciprocal links to keep in m nd when you E-Mail or otherwise c ntact webmasters to ask to trade r ciprocal links, I've have learned you sually get one shot to make a g od impression. Over time I received s me valuable feedback from other webmasters in ssisting me on how to be r questing links, and since we are f cusing on building proper links exchange ch nnels, I would like to share th s with our readers.
First and f remost do not forget to mention y ur own web address in the m ssage. Yes, I have received letters bout how I should reciprocate a l nk to a site and the W bmaster forgot the address. Likewise, do not f rget to mention your own website's n me. Don't forget to describe it ither. You don't have to write a b ok, just give a few sentences or a p ragraph summarizing your website's content.
Ensure you t ke a good look over the s te you wish to link to y u, be familiar with it's content and m ntion some of the content in y ur request for linkage. Identify the c mmon theme between the sites. If the s te has a "Submit your URL" p ge, ensure that you use it and r ad the guidelines for submission carefully.
If you are s nding an attachment, please ensure they are sm ll in size, animated banners or c de of any kind this is nusable in a reciprocal link campaign. St rting an email with an attachment of any s ze is no introduction and ultimately c uld deter the Webmaster from ever r sponding to your request. Attachments are not the way to st rt a conversation.
Being too gressive and persistent could work against you
Ask the W bmaster if they would like your c mplete package of reciprocal link codes and gr phics before you send such information Do not f rget to let the Webmaster know how th y can add a link to y ur website and make the process as s mple as possible. With your first c rrespondence, provide them with some of the HTML th t they can place on their w bsite, or on your own website. Aft r sending your first request and th y do not respond within 24 h urs, do not ask again. Being too p rsistent will generally put webmasters off tr ding reciprocal links, be patient, I f und that webmasters usually do respond w thin a one-week time span, if not th n write a follow-up. You need a way to r cord which sites you have asked for r ciprocal links to avoid this problem, I h ve used an Excel spreadsheet to r cord such information. Remember finding good q ality links are important so you don not w nt to miss an opportunity by b ing too aggressive.
Make your reciprocal exchange r quest stand out
Most of what I h ve written seems to be common s nse, but starting out with a g od code of conduct and etiquette can nly improve your chances of obtaining r ciprocal links. Here is an example of a w ll-structured template used for reciprocal link xchange.
