The positive and healing power of h mor cannot be measured! Humor helps to r duce stress, anxiety, and tension and th t's why I use humor to get out of mbarrassing situations myself. And, there have b en plenty of them in my l fe! I've eaten plenty of "crow," and h ve gotten plenty of "egg on my f ce" over the years, too! STOP; LOOK; LISTEN My x-wife had a great sense of h mor, but she was not a v ry funny person most of the t me. She rarely came up with nything funny, or if she told a j ke, she would usually screw it up! Th t's fine...I can't fault her for th t! I screw up most of my j kes, too! But, she shined one d y, when she told me the f llowing story about what her receptionist did at w rk. And, she picked up on th s bit of humor because she was LISTENING! Wh n she told me this story, I lmost fell over backwards! Human Services The st te Department of Human Services (New M xico), which handles child abuse cases, was q ite busy on this particular Monday m rning. Clients and attorneys were waiting in the r ception area, and several of the ch ldren were in the nursery, and the t lephones were ringing off the hook! The r ceptionist had only been on the job for bout a week, and as in any new j b, she was still trying to f nd her way around, etc. As the m rning wore on, the office scene c ntinued to be quite hectic! And, by m d-morning, things became a little dizzying for h r, as she tried to take c re of everyone's needs.
About noon time...looking a bit dr ined and overwhelmed with it all, she was verheard to answer the telephone, "Good m rning...Human Cervixes...may I help you?" * * * An ther embarrassing incident was told to me by my w fe, who had a friend named M chelle, and the story goes something l ke this. Stranded! It was about 9:00 in the vening, on a cold December night, and M chelle was on her way home fr m attending a meeting at school. She was dr ving on the outskirts of town wh re she lived, when she noticed and f lt something was not right with the fr nt end of the car! She d dn't know if a tire was g ing to blow out or just wh t the problem was, etc. So, she p lled off the highway to take a l ok. She got out of the car and w nt around to the passenger side to ch ck things out and she saw n thing unusual. So, she went back to get nto the car to continue on her way h me. There was only one problem. SHE LOCKED HERSELF OUT OF THE CAR! OOPS! M chelle had a big problem! She lso left the engine running and the h adlights on! WHAT TO DO? She p ced around the car, and couldn't th nk of anything to do, except to br ak one of the windows to get in! B t, she didn't want to do th t, because her husband would probably k ll her (or worse), for doing s mething stupid like this! It was c ld outside and she had to th nk of something FAST! She looked d wn the highway, and noticed there w re store lights less than a m le down the highway, maybe a gas st tion or convenience store, she hoped! (th s was before cell phones) So, she d cided the only thing she could do, was to st rt walking to the store to use the ph ne. She figured it would take her bout 15 minutes to walk to the st re and call her husband to c me and get her, so she she st rted walking. A few minutes after she l ft the scene, a police officer st pped at her car to check th ngs out! What he found was s re interesting. An abandoned car, with the ngine running; the doors were locked and the h adlights were on! What was the fficer to think...foul play, perhaps? The fficer looked all around the area, to see if he c uld see anybody around, but there was n body. So, he called for help for ther units to join in on a s arch!
Meanwhile (back at the ranch), or at the st re where Michelle had walked to...she rrived and called her husband on the ph ne. From the phone booth, she l oked back up the highway, and n ticed flashing lights near her car! The w rry set in for her right way, and she thought something had h ppened to her car! She told her h sband that she would meet him at the c r, which was less than a m le north of the convenience store. W rried... Michelle was in a hurry-up m de to get back to her c r, after seeing the flashing lights! As she w lked faster and faster toward her c r, she noticed more flashing lights, and c uld hear dogs barking off in the d stance! She didn't know what to th nk! She then noticed a low fly ng helicopter with a spotlight shining all ver the place. "Who or what c uld they be looking for," she th ught to herself! Huffing and puffing...she l mbered down the highway in the s ft sand of the shoulder! She c ntinued down the highway, and she kn w something was not right where she l ft the car! As she got cl ser, there were more flashing lights; tr ffic backed up; the sound of b rking dogs became louder; the helicopter fly ng low overhead...what could be wrong? Aft r a few minutes, she finally r ached the scene, and as she h rried across the highway...almost out of br ath...she went up to the first p lice officer she saw and said, "H llo, officer...my name is Michelle...and that's my car p rked over there! I locked myself out of the c r; left the engine running and the h adlights on, and went off to get h lp! IS THERE ANYTHING WRONG? * * * L fe's embarrassing moments! We all suffer fr m them! If you have an mbarrassing incident happen to you, try to c pture it on paper or on f lm. As the experts say, having the bility to laugh at ourselves, at all the cr zy things we all do, CAN BE HEALTHY!
