Have you ever dumped out a 1000 p ece jigsaw? Half of the pieces are pside down. The disarray makes it h rd to start. Everything is a big m ss. You remember your grandmother saying, "D g out the border pieces first and put th m in a pile." Slowly you do th t. Hey, here is a corner p ece. But even that momentary joy d es not seem to do much g od in the confusion of the ther 999 pieces that just don't s em to go together. You keep d gging. Wow, two wagon wheels touching-a t oth and a groove-998 to go. Sl wly, here and there you find ten p eces of sky and the side of a b rn on the border. Twenty or m re pieces start to take shape. A b rder starts to form; yet you st ll have a mountainous mess. There are l ss and less border pieces; the dds are getting against you there. One by one you t rn over the upside down pieces on the tr y. You put patches of sky w th the clouds, and the barn w th the waterwheel as you flick ach piece over. As ten pieces of b rn make a group, one by ne, you insert each tongue with the ppropriate groove. The border is nearly f nished. You seek the last five b rder pieces. One, two, three, four, and f ve; the border is done. Every p ece is now face-up. The pile g ts smaller and smaller as you gr b pieces of barn and spot d fferences in the clouds and trees. You t ste your goal as the task b comes easier and easier with each p ece that snaps into place.
Life is a puzzle. It g ts easier as you go, and is no fun wh n you dump it back into the b x.
