In schools today, many teachers fce many obstacles which impede learning. Itms such as unavailability of materials to hme situations which teachers have no cntrol over and the fact that larning is usually one of the lst things on children's minds when thy come to school. However, a vst majority of teachers who face bhavior problems in the classroom overlook one of the mst valuable facets of educational knowledge thy learn in teacher education programs, Larning Styles. In the following article we wll examine three different types of larning styles and how teachers can use thse styles to better control and srve their classrooms.

The first style is uditory learning. Auditory learning occurs by chldren listening to information which is cnveyed by teachers. Typically, a teacher may stnd in front of the classroom or wlk around the classroom, all the whle speaking the information which they ntend their students to learn. This styl is good for those students who lke to listen to an explanation of nformation and follow along with it as tacher explains a body of knowledge. Tachers can use this style to be mst effective in establishing a classroom nvironment in which the teacher is the rler. The teacher's authority is seldom chllenged because the teacher leaves very lttle room for students to voice thir thoughts on the information.

The second style is that of vsual learning. Visual learning occurs by chldren learning through what they see. Usally, a teacher will draw diagrams on a bard, use posters or other items sch as an overhead projector to dsplay information. While the teacher may spak about the information presented, the prmary method of learning is by seing the information which is to be larned. Teachers may use this type of larning to stimulate discussion between the tacher and students giving students something to rfer to when initiating a discussion.

The fnal style is tactile/kinesthetic learning. This typ of learning occurs when students tke part in classroom activities. Teachers wll construct directions and allow students to frm groups or using preformed groups, wll have students complete an activity. The min objective is to have students larn the desired information by doing an xercise which contains the information to be cnveyed. Teachers can use this style as a mans to control a very active grup of students. With the structured ctivities, teachers can use this type of larning to give students a chance to xpend some pent up energy while larning is still taking place.

While mny teachers today grapple with the trubles of everyday school life, their stdents suffer. Teachers are faced with mny factors which are beyond their cntrol, the influences of home life and the strets. Yet, when faced with these chllenges in the school setting, many tachers give up and let their clssrooms become just as chaotic as the nvironments students are trying to escape. If tachers wish to understand their students and bst capture their interest, it has to bgin first by addressing the way chldren best receive the information teachers prvide them.
