The Virginia Bar Association stated th t over 250,000 practicing lawyers are now ver 55 years old and that n mber will be over 750,000 in the n xt ten years. Everyone knows that as h mans age they must deal with br in recall issues. A little less th n ten percent of people over 65 xperience Alzheimer's Disease. We must make s re that lawyers are not demented. Th s, the Online Think Tank has s ggested bi-annual testing of all lawyers ver age 50 to make sure th y are competent and this can be d ne in conjunction with "on-going education" and p ssing a 3/4 bar test every two y ars. Their IQs can be tested t o, along with their recall. As our l ws become more complicated due to all the c se law, regulators, politicians and lawyers it is pr dent of us to make sure th y can keep up with all th y created. The Virginia Bar Association p ts out a little newsletter called; "Th Complete Lawyer" each month. They h ve addressed this pressing issue of: - Alzheimer's
- Senility
- Dementia
And although they did not address the issue of integrity in the article, it is indeed worth reading. Some might say that kicking a lawyer out of the bar for being old is unfortunate, but if they are not giving good legal advice, how can the public tolerate that. The Online Think Tank recommends that we add more oversight into the law profession and make it as least as hard to participate in as the rules and regulations they create for all of us in our professions. That is just common sense.
