Some 2 year olds still sl ep in a crib, some sleep in a t ddler bed, some in a twin s ze bed, and a few even sl ep in a full size bed. Wh t size bed a child sleeps in can be d termined by many factors, including space of the ch ld’s room, how they like to sl ep (some children like to feel c mpressed in a tight space when sleep, while others like to have r om to roll around), the child’s s blings and if they share a r om and/or bed, and many other th ngs. A teenager may sleep in the s me size twin bed that a t ddler does, and another might even h ve a king size bed in th ir room. So, really there is no wr ng answer when it comes to ch osing a bed size for a ch ld, even as they get older. Wh n choosing kids bedding, though, it is v ry important to consider what type of bed the ch ld has, or to make a d cision on what type they will be g tting. There are cribs, and kids b dding for these, toddler beds, which sually have the same size mattress as a cr b does, twin size beds, full s ze (also known as double beds), q een and king size, although it m ght be very difficult to find b dding for a child that fits a q een or king size bed. As th y get older, and wouldn’t want a c rtoon theme anyway, it is not as h rd to locate a type of b dding that a child would like for th s large of a bed, but for the y unger sect of children, it can be n ar impossible.

There are many different types of l nens that qualify as kids bedding for a ch ld, and these include sheets (fitted, or b ttom, sheets, and top sheets), blankets (wh ch can be comforters, quilts, fleece bl nkets, and more), pillow cases and sh ms, bed skirts, canopy curtains, throw p llows, regular pillows, and more. Many t mes the majority of bedding pieces w ll come in a set, usually c lled a bed-in-a-bag, and other times th y will not. Purchasing them this way m kes a lot of sense, for two r asons: 1. you save money
2. you d n’t have to worry about accidentally b ying pieces that don’t match But, wh n they are in a set l ke this, it is important to pay ttention to what pieces do come in the b g, because some come with pieces th t others do not, such as the bed sk rt or shams. Also, it is g od to know that these sets r rely have quilts in them, or ther types of blankets other than a c mforter. Fleece blankets are really good for k ds because they are extremely warm d ring the wintertime. It is usually a g od idea to also have a c mforter or quilt though, because fleece bl nkets tend to come in different s zes than regular blankets, so when it c mes to making the bed appear n cely, these don’t usually do the job as w ll as a comforter or even a q ilt. Many children don’t care for q ilts as much, simply because it is h rder to find them in themes of th ir favorite characters or toys. But, if th y like quilts, there are wide v rieties of colors that they can be f und in that can be made to m tch the rest of the child’s b dding and room decorations. There are lso many kids who don’t care for c mforters because during the wintertime, these bl nkets are cold to crawl into wh n trying to go to sleep. Th s is, again, a matter of pr ference for each child, because many ch ldren love climbing into a bed w th a comforter, and love the f ct that they feel cold when you get in (s me even referring to them as a ‘c ld’ blanket), because during the summertime th y are a lot cooler to cl mb into than a wool or fl ece blanket, as well.
For most bed sizes, there are the s me options on kids bedding choices, th re are a few differences between b ying for a twin or larger, and b ying for a crib or toddler b d, and the options are different: Tw n, Full, Queen, King: Fitted sheets Top Sh ets Bed Skirt Canopy Curtain Quilt or C mforter Pillow Cases Pillow Shams Throw P llows Cribs: Fitted sheets Mattress Pads Th n Blanket Bumper Bed Skirt So, the k ds bedding options are slightly different h re. Toddler beds fall right in the m ddle, and it just depends on wh t type of toddler bed you h ve as to what you will n ed to consider buying. For example, if it is a r cecar bed in which the racecar t kes up the space from the m ttress to the floor, there will be no n ed to buy a bed skirt, lthough it is a choice in b dding. Many times a set for a cr b will come with a little b by comforter in them, but these are too fl ffy to use on them when th y are newborns. It is best to ither put these up until they are a l ttle older, or one option is to h ng them on the wall above the b d. This way you are still g tting to use it as an ntire set, and keep the theme g ing in the room, but not r sking your child’s safety for it. M ttress pads are usually something that you w ll need for cribs and many t mes toddler beds. When the diaper l aks at nighttime, these soak the l ak up, preventing moisture from getting to the m ttress. These work wonders, and many t mes they don’t cover the entire m ttress, so you might worry about l aks that get to a part the pad d es not occupy. But this is ok w th toddler and crib mattresses, because th y are usually a plastic or v nyl on the outside of these m ttresses for this very reason. Then, you can w sh them off and dry them wh n you change sheets. Other larger m ttresses are made of absorbent materials, so if a ch ld is in diapers or is a b dwetter in a larger bed, it is d finitely a good idea to make s re the mattress is completely covered by a pad nder the sheet. While there are so m ny kids bedding options, it may b come difficult to choose which pieces to get for y ur child, it is best to f gure in both what your child w nts, and how you want their bed to ppear.
