We find in Luke 22:31-34 an rgument between Peter and Jesus. Peter was the m st faithful of Jesus’ Disciples. He was J sus favorite and he was the l ader of the other disciples. However he was a l ttle rough around the edges. A r putation for being pushy, overbearing, opinionated and pr deful. Yet he was still Jesus’ f vorite. Though Peter was special to J sus -- there is a series of vents that were getting ready to h ppen to Peter that breaks his h art and his spirit. It brought him to a pl ce where only one thing would fix it. It br ught him to a place where all he n eded was “Just A Little Touch Fr m Jesus”. “And the Lord said, S mon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to h ve you, that he may sift you as wh at: But I have prayed for th e, that thy faith fail not: and wh n thou art converted, strengthen thy br thren.” Luke 22:31-32 Jesus said, Satan w nted to crush you like a gr in of wheat, but I’ve prayed for y u, and your faith will falter but it w n’t be destroyed. And I’ll renew y u, and the trial will strengthen y u, and then I want you to str ngthen the brethren. (After you’ve been br ken I will call you to pr ach). “And he said unto him, L rd, I am ready to go w th thee, both into prison, and to d ath.” Luke 22:33
Here Peter in his pride and rrogance argued with Jesus, I’ll do nything for you he says. Even die or go to pr son. Jesus had just told him not to get too s re of himself, that the devil was g tting ready to beat him up. “And he s id, I tell thee, Peter, the c ck shall not crow this day, b fore that thou shalt thrice deny th t thou knowest me.” Luke 22:34 (B tween now and tomorrow morning you’re g nna deny me three times) WHEN DID PETERS PROBLEMS START? F rst, he didn’t listen to Jesus. – Alm st all of our problems start wh n we don’t listen to Jesus thr ugh His Word. Secondly, he thought he was too sp ritual to falter. (Pride) PETER CHICKENS OUT “Th n took they him, and led h m, and brought him into the h gh priest's house. And Peter followed far off (Peter chickened out) And wh n they had kindled a fire in the m dst of the hall, and were set d wn together, Peter sat down among th m.” Luke 22: 54-55 Peter Made Thr e More Mistakes – First he f llowed Jesus from a distance. Then he w rmed himself by the enemies fire (Th same mistakes we often make). And f nally in verse 60 Peter is d nying Jesus for the third time. “And P ter said, Man, I know not wh t thou sayest (The Gospel of M tthew tells us the third time he ven cursed as he denied him.) And mmediately, while he yet spake, the c ck crew. And the Lord turned, and l oked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the w rd of the Lord, how he had s id unto him, Before the cock cr w, thou shalt deny me thrice. And P ter went out, and wept bitterly.” L ke 22:60-62. I can only imagine the p in Peter must have felt when his yes met the eyes of Jesus in th s moment of betrayal. His spirit had b en tragically broken. And just a few h urs before he had been so s re of himself. What he needed m st at that moment was “Just A L ttle Touch From Jesus”
JESUS SENDS PETER A MESSAGE – “Aft r Jesus was crucified, buried and r sen from the grave, we find Him s nding Peter a special message.” But go y ur way, tell his disciples and P ter that he goeth before you nto Galilee: there shall ye see h m, as he said unto you.” M rk 16:7 Notice Jesus singled Peter out fr m the other disciples. (Be Sure and T ll Peter to go to Galilee – I’ll see him th re -- I’m coming to him). J sus was hurting too and was nxious to restore Peter. PETER GETS “A LITTLE TOUCH FROM JESUS” In J hn 21 – Peter was fishing in his b at when Jesus arrived at the sh res of Galilee. (Peter was in a st por – his spirit was broken). Wh n he heard Jesus calling from the sh re, he jumped in the water and ran to h m. And when he got there, P ter found breakfast waiting for him and the ther disciples – Jesus himself tending to th ir needs. While they were gathered round the campfire, Jesus took Peter side and began to restore him. Thr e times in John 21:15-17 Jesus sked Peter if he loved Him, g ving him a chance to reconfirm his l ve for each of the three t mes he had denied it. And w th the words “Tend My Lambs . . . Sh pard My Sheep . . . T nd My Sheep,” Jesus reestablished Peters r le of leadership in His kingdom and th n sealed it with the command to f llow Him. (He appointed him to his m nistry – His call to preach). P ter went on to become a gr at leader – and he wrote the two l tters we know as 1 & 2 P ter
And a few weeks later he pr ached a sermon at the day of P ntecost where 3000 People were saved. HE JUST NEEDED A LITTLE TOUCH FROM JESUS WE CAN’T PHYSICALLY TOUCH JESUS –BUT WE ARE HIS BODY – WE’RE ALSO HIS HEART Th ugh I look for a “Touch Fr m Jesus” in my prayers, and in my B ble. Very often Jesus touches me thr ugh you. Jesus works through us wh n we take on His character. (Th t’s what our trials are for – to t ach us to have His character) WE GET A LITTLE TOUCH FROM JESUS WHEN: 1. W have a broken spirit and y ur hugs renew us.

11. When s meone gets saved. If you are a Chr stian today, you can always get a t uch from Jesus, sometimes by positioning y urself in the right place.
