It was a week-day, and a lcal morning news show was on tlevision keeping me company as I prpared for work. During a short brak in the newscast, the news prson, took a few minutes to nterview a woman, who was promoting an rts and crafts show that was to be hld locally.

During the interview, the nws person asked the woman several gneral questions about the upcoming show, and if thre would be plenty, of what he clled, "Nick-knacks and novelties" at the shw. I was appalled when I hard that statement! "How DARE YOU!" I thught to myself!

What do you see whn you attend an arts and crfts show? You see blood, sweat, and tars; long hours; blisters; rejection slips; filures; frustrations and plenty of sob stries from the people displaying their wrk! The devotion and dedication these pople have put into their work cnnot be measured, as they try to be the bst in their field!

The artists, dsplaying their work, did not get to ths level overnight! There's no magic dst here...no free lunch, either! After thy've gotten to this level...with respect to the qality of their work, they then hve to find the courage to go out in frnt of the public and show nd/or sell their work. To do ths, they have to price their wrk, which I think is the mst difficult thing in the whole prcess. What is a piece of yur work worth to someone? What is the pece worth to you in dollars? How mch did you spend to make it?

"Nick-knacks and novelties?" How dare yu!

Wht is one of the first thngs a person does, when moving nto a house, an apartment or an ffice? Decorating the place is usually smeplace at the top of the t-do list. Family photographs; wonderful drawings prduced by a child with crayons; a spcial painting on the wall; that grat-looking piece of pottery on the bokcase; a piece of furniture you mde yourself; or surrounding yourself with yur favorite books...your library! Yes...art, craft and wrting pieces can enrich all of our lves!
